Either someone neglected to tell Joe Cisneros, a Democratic candidate for Cameron County Sheriff, that the party Wednesday at the corner of 19th Street and Southmost was for his opponent Omar Lucio, District Attorney candidate Luis Saenz and Distr. 34 Congressional candidate Mando Villalobos, or maybe he thought it was an open bash.
Regardless, soon after he arrived and started meeting and greeting pachanga-goers, he was told in no uncertain terms that this definitely was not his party.

ty retreat out the door."Cisneros, whose fortunes have dimmed since he was let go from the Texas Department of Public Safety as a trooper after reported instances of domestic turmoil with his mate and other female partners, has at one time or another worked as a constable, a sheriff's deputy, a court bailiff, and as courthouse security under constable Pete Avila.
He was let go from that position after he was cited for campaigning on county time. He is appealing the decision before the Texas Workforce Commission and has an unemployment claim against the county saying that it was a case of political retaliation because he was running against Sheriff Omar Lucio. That claim is ongoing and no decision has been reached, according to county sources.
Meanwhile, his use of a campaign sign where he is held on one leg by a little girl while he bears a holstered handgun on on waist has raised the ire of Lucio's supporters.
"Why is he wearing a pistol on his belt when he's not employed as a peace officer?," questioned a man at the pachanga. "Isn't he supposed to be a peace officer of the state before he can do that? And what about the little girl? That doesn't look very safe to have a child so close to a handgun."
The sign of the tall, lanky armed lawmen that Cisneros has favored is an identical replica of one used by Hidalgo County Sheriff Lupe Treviño, by the way.
All political controversy aside, few observers give Cisneros a chance of defeating Lucio. Should the race go into a runoff, you can be sure that the whispered rumors about his alleged violent domestic behavior and his employment missteps will be fully fleshed and documented.

When you're a lower tier candidate like "Sheriff" Cisneros and you can't afford your own pachangas every week, you have to go where the people are.
The tall drink-of-water is usually tolerated at most events, but not viewed as a serious candidate.
It is time to send Omar Lucio to the farm. He is a remnant of ages past and is a part of old Cameron County Dumbokratic politics. He is out of touch with reality and depends on his "co-horts" to run the sheriff's office. Time for Omar Lucio to hang up his shield and retire.
Pobre Cisneros, he ought to run for Constable. Anon, is right, Lucio is way too old.
It would be great to see Omar Lucio hang up his shield and retire to his ranchito. He is allowing the sheriff's department to be politicized and run by his "possee" of Dumbokrats who are only loyal to their own bank accounts. He has turned his commissary over to privateers who overcharge the prisoners and their families. He let's local "Eight Line" shops exist as long as there is a "kick-back". He refuses to arrest Dumbokratic supporters who have committed offenses....even fraud. Omar Lucio protects the Dumbokratic Party first, his friends and the public, in general, last. Time for new blood in the Sheriff's Office.
Lucio did not remember who he was last February during a meeting, how can he be the sheriff???
Lucio is so old the dude is like a fuckin mental ward patient. You've gotta b kidding if you expect anyone to vote for him. I know nothing of the candidates other than that there is some independent who is young, smart, and would actually bring justice to our town. WE're sick of being manipulated. We are sick of the lies from the Democrats.
It saddens me to see such a well respects officer not know when it is time to hang up the holster and let a younger sheriff lead. It is getting to a point that other law enforcement officers are losing respect because his own deputies are claiming he no longer drives himself around due to his old age and also that he has relived himself in his pants a few times while on duty.
