CAMERON COUNTY'S ACCIDENT-PRONE SPEED DEMON SAFETY OFFICER CRASHES... AGAIN

By Juan Montoya
By now, workers with Cameron County Public Works have grown used to seeing safety officer (in name only) Gilbert Galvan cruising through the area's rural roads at break-neck speed, emergency lights flashing from under his SUV grill.
"People think that it's a policeman when he flashes those red and blue lights," said one recently. "You don't know if you're supposed to stop or get out of his way. It's confusing."
Not long ago, Galvan failed to negotiate the curve at the intersection of FM 803 and Henderson Road and caused substantial damage to the county vehicle. A tow truck also had to be called at county expense to take the truck back to the county barn in San Benito.
Galvan, a favorite of Luis Ara, the Public Works supervisor, then had to use the county commissioner's old pickup truck until his was repaired. Then, after the costly repairs were made on the county vehicle, it was hit by another car as Galvan pulled out of a parking lot and the vehicle sustained some damage.
Back to the repair garage!
Well, guess what happened just today? Speed Demon came to the traffic light at the intersection of Sam Houston (FM 345) and FM 510 and was involved in a collision with a car driven by an elderly man. We are still trying to get more details on the mishap, but apparently Galvan said he was struck by the other car when he was turning on a green arrow and had the right-of-way.
There's only one problem with that story, witnesses say: the traffic light in question does not have green arrows.
We have just received photos of the cursed county vehicle being hauled off by a wrecker. Now, with this  collision, the county's insurance policy will again have to dole out the money (minus deductible) to fix the vehicle again. The way that favoritism works at the county, it will probably be just a matter of time before Galvan is back behind the wheel racing through the county's roads hell bent for mayhem again.

(You don't know if you're supposed to stop or get out of his way.)

I'd love to see that boy try that shit in Las Prietas.

Fucking morons and what a calamity series of unfortunate events…..County should have mandatory drug testing for all of its employees!!!

Is he related to Ernie Hernandez or Sofia Benavides....or another county official. Nepotism and compadrismo corrupt the county from top to bottom. And, the taxpayers pay for all the damage they incur. But, those in office don't have the huevos to take action against "political favorites" who serve themselves, not the citizens.

The county has no choice but to terminate Galvan. With this driving history on record, should he cause a fatality, the liability for the county would be huge.

Cameron County's liability insurance provider may also have to consider raising the rate as long as Galvan is employed.

It is irresponsible to allow an employee to retain employment once proven incompetent simply because of compadreism.

OMG! Just how many vehicles is the county willing to spend money on or fix for this freaking idiot? The question is, where was he going that he had to use his emergency lights? Is it a justified response and what was the emergency? Luis Ara better get Gilbert Galvan's nose out of his butt and act like a supervisor. Sounds like Gilbert Galvan has violated county policy? What authority does he have to run with emergency lights, even with his title? What safety driving course has the guy taken prior to all his crashes? Has he been sent back to a safety course since the first one? Sounds like Luis Ara has failed to do his job as a supervisor to ensure that these type of incidences don't occur again? Much less, this freaking idiot of Gilbert Galvan. Failure to do one's job as a supervisor or elected official cost money that the taxpayer has to dish out in the form of taxes and other monies that could be used for their livelihood. Sounds like these two idiots don't care about the taxpayer's of Cameron County in using their common sense or training (if any) to do their job and keep cost down. I believe that both need to be reprimanded or disciplined for their incompetence!

What is going on with this county? What kind of people do we have working for our county? Who hires a person to be a safety officer that can't even keep himself or the public safe? This so call safety officer, needs to be eliminated! Our county needs a safety officer that keeps safe and not that cause accident.

U seem so smart, u say the insurance will pay let him crash. HELLOW LADY!!!!! Who do u think pays for all those cars that the poor officer continues to crash? ALL OF US!!! The county's tax payers. One more thing, he is not alone on the Hwy. In one of those accident he can hurt or kill someone. Hopefully that someone it's not one of ur love once.

Give it a rest! We have bigger things to worry about in this world! Get a life Mr. Blogger! Yours is obviously lame and boring that you have to snoop into others! And whatever about all this "taxpayer" crap! Most of the residents who live here are not even permanent legal residents!

Look lady, I pay Taxes too and I am not complaining about how they make use of the money, I am paying taxes because of the property I own, which doesnt have nothing to do with paying for the county vehicles being wrecked by an officer(s), so you calm down and leave the officer alone, get a job, relax and be happy, ok?

Everything purchased by the county is bought with taxpayers' money. Therefore, it does affect you. The money comes from your wallet whether you care about it or not. I understand that ignorance, for some, is bliss and that may work nicely for you. If your ignorance to the problems in our county allows you to "relax and be happy" then that's great, cheers for you. However, the problem at hand isn't about you or your horrid grammar and punctuation (it's a wonder if you have a job); it's about everyone else in the county who's actually mentally capable of understanding the problem at hand.

Great point, couldn't have said it better myself. Understanding the problems at hand!

Look lady back off and focus on your sorry comments that only make you feel great, theres other important things to worry about, than worrying about an officer crashing a couple of times, and to be honest, only in your sorry ass mind would make you think its hurting us tax payers, get over it and focus on your sorry ass life, and stop worrying about others and making rude comments because you are one of the least important in this blog.

To be honest with you, the only ignorant in this picture is you Mrs Ruby, as we have been seeing around us and here in our county, there are bigger issues going on that are been taking care off, everyone is focused more on the people we have working for our county as judges, lawyers and more and that have been corrupted, because as you said WE DO PAY TAXES AND ALL THIS IS AFFECTING US!!! ofcourse only an ignorant woman like you will focus in minorities, that are not as important to any of us, please go to your room and just stay there. lol

Gosh you're right, I should totally stop worrying about problems in the county and worry about my "sorry ass life". Maybe I should become more of a classy worldly woman like yourself who resorts to vulgar insults and horrible grammar. It seems to me that you can't even spell much less provide a respectable counter argument. It might have been more effective to just insult my mother. However, you are right on one point; there are bigger problems to worry about, (like our dwindling school systems) but that doesn't mean you should ignore other issues. All problems should be addressed no matter how minor; but please feel free to educate me.
