Gov. Rick Perry today appointed San Antonio lawyer and public safety commissioner John T. Steen Jr. as secretary of state.
Steen replaces Hope Andrade, who stepped down from the post last week after four years as the state’s chief elections officer. The secretary of state also serves as the governor’s adviser on border and Mexican affairs, as well as the chief protocol officer for state and international matters. Steen has been serving on the Public Safety Commission, which oversees the Texas Department of Public Safety.
“John’s strong business background and dedication to public service throughout the years make him uniquely qualified to serve in this important role,” Perry said in announcing the appointment.

Steen, a graduate of the University of Texas School of Law, said he was deeply honored by his appointment as Texas’ 108th secretary of state.
“As chief elections officer, I will make it my highest priority to preserve the integrity of our elections and ensure they are fair, accessible and secure,” he said in a statement.

Guess carlitos was not good enough and you already have gilberto hinojosa in austin, so why do you want another elected official from cameron over there teaching them the ropes?
Carlitos, You'r still going to be able to continue to run the black bags at the elections office here in Cameron county, Hurray, Hurray!! Don't cry about the Gov's choice, this Steen guy went to Princeton, and he raised more money for the Gov's embarrassing run for the Prez post. Did you really think he was going to take you after your flop as a DPS commissioner where your sociopath tendencies reared their ugly head? Unfortunately, we will have to continue to bear the brunt of your non activity, I guess you will have to stay out of the Co, office for another week or two to get over this terrible disappointment and the shame that you did not get the position that you have been telling everyone that you were going to be crowned with as soon as Hope Andrade stepped aside. BooHoo, BooHoo,BooHoo.
Texas'loss is our gain. Cameron County needs to keep one honest, sincere and hard-working man. Some of his commissioners need to get their act together and be respectful towards him and the position that he was elected to. Several commissioners are just as rude as the one who lost at the last city commission-CA
He has done a terrible job of guarding the integrity of county elections, glad he was not appointed to the SOS job.
Most likely because they probably looked into this voter fraud thing. We have made national news several times you know.
Is there another issue of voter fraud with the recount of the Port Isabel Constable election. Republicans probably think not since their and Cascos's guy won after the third recount of the ballots. Why 3 recounts? Did Ortiz not get it right after the first or second time? Or was he following Cascos direction to see that the republican won no matter how many recounts it took?
That's where it gets you Cascos being all buddy buddy with ERnie!!! NOWHERE, just ask John Wood, etc
