IF AT FIRST RECOUNT YOU DON'T SUCCEED, COUNT, COUNT AGAIN

By Juan Montoya
A funny thing happened on the way to an election recount.
This time the recount didn't involve justice of the peace races, the Brownsville Independent School District Board, or even the county judge's position.
This time it involved the Cameron County Constable Precinct 1 race between Democrat Horacio Zamora and Republican Pete Delgadillo.
If you remember, the original totals from the election were 2504 to 2501 with incumbent Zamora ahead of challenger Delgadillo by three votes. That totals 5,505 votes even without the provisional and missing ballots thrown in for good measure. The recount of the votes was scheduled after the provisional votes and missing ballots were accounted for, officials said.
Then, after three recounts, guess what? Delgadillo, the Republican, came away with the win by  2486 to 2479.
Whaaat?
That's right, 40 votes less than the election day totals even after the provisional and missing ballots were thrown in.
The canvassing authority must now conduct a canvass for the office as soon as practicable after completion of the recount, using the committee report in the supervisor’s possession because the recount changed the number of votes. The new canvass is the official canvass for all purposes, including calculating election contest filing deadlines.
The term for Cameron County Constable Precinct 1 begins January 1, 2013.

Has the count of the five people that sit on the Elections Commission been recounted to be sure they have accepted Mr. Ortiz's resignation. Hopefully none of them were lost. Someone did say that Monclovio's pockets seemed to be stuffed full of something just before the recount of the recount of the recount.

Mr. O'Malley said he didn't do it. That he is as pure as the driven snow.

What happened to the 40 votes that were counted on election night. Who threw those away before the recount. Did Delgadillo know someone on the inside???

I guess the Republicans can fix elections too. Remember all the irregularities that happened while the ballot board met. Someone should complain to the state about the gross ineptitude and mishandling of this election!

More of Rogers BS and ineptitude. Can't we try this asshole for ignorance beyond what is humanly acceptable? How do you lose 40 votes? If anything the recounts usually irove total vote numbers. I guess these recounters are better than the computer systems that count our votes. Freaking disgustful!

Message to Zamora. The voters will not tolerate your shenanigans of enforcing federal immigration laws by questioning people about their immigration status and turning them over to Border Patrol. Have some dignity and get out of law enforcement. And don't go running to newly elected District Attorney Luis Saenz asking him for a job. You are not wanted there either.

If more of us would do more of the above, this would be a much better place to live and raise our families. More power to him.

ZAMORA. your illegal sweeps during spring break at the end of the island are now history history ! !

ZAMORA. your ideas to illegally clean up the beaches and not welcome
all vatos, cholos and homies from the valley are over ! !

DEGADILLO. the residents and voters of spi and pi only want you to enforce the law . . . legally.

Put a stop to the cowboys trained by zamora . . . .

Fact of the matter is that the people spoke and we have to respect teir voice. Zamora is an arrogant man and that caught up with him. God has a funny way of teaching us lessons and for Zamora this was a lesson of, shrink that big melon-head of yours son. Public service is not for everyone,...especially for guys that have forgotten where they came from and treat people in his precint with disrespect.

Yeah, maybe then we can be sure only US citizens are voting! In Port Isabel they register people to vote without verifying their citizenship status.

Democrats would never allow this. Illegals are a huge voting block for them. It's why they oppose Voter ID laws so passionately with garbage about voter oppression. They find the one useless citizen who can't walk (but has no problem going to the Medicaid office) and parade him around to the ignorant masses. Voters are "outraged" and laws are blocked by imbecil judges. The result? Well, you're seeing it all around you.

I am so glad that that 'ARROGANT SOB' is out of office. At lease one place in this county the voters got rid of one PaPi Cascos' idiot.

This idiot has no other place to run for a job but..... you know the DA's Office.

What a worthless example of a law enforcement officer.

Fairwell Zamora....your time has come! January 1st, 2013.

The question should be, where are the 40 votes? Also, why were people allowed to vote for this race in other precincts?
