JULIET GARCIA'S "PARTNERSHIP" LEGACY: EDUCATION BEYOND OUR REACH

(Ed.'s note: Ever wonder why some of us never swallowed the "partnership" concept between the UT System and the Texas Southmost College? Below are the figures for tuition fees for 50 Texas community colleges gathered by the Texas Association of Community College. Take a gander at what it costs our kids to go to school compared with other community colleges in Texas. At the bottom are the state averages. Juliet Garcia can spout all she wants about the "university" experience, but in the end, the cost to residents in the poorest region of the state (if not the United States) is higher than anywhere else. That cost was uniform for university level and community college courses. It is downright criminal. TSC trustees say the separation will gradually allow them to decrease tuition and fees costs to make an education more affordable to our local students.)

Julieta, if your mother Paulita were alive, how do you think she would react to these statistics? She was a lady with values but I guess in 9 years or so, she was not able to teach you much> I used to be so proud of you without knowing what was actually going on under the table.

Juan who gives a shit. It's old news. Move on. The partnership no longer matters. TSC is on life support and UTB is thriving. Let's read about Space X and it's kick backs to GBIC.

Damn good work, Juanito.

How much more affordable do you want tuition for our "local students" to be? It's already "free"! You're not seriously suggesting "local students" pay tuition out of their own pockets, are you? That's laughable...

You should try comparing rates to other university rates and not to community colleges. utb-tsc was an affordable way to obtain a bachelor's degree.

The way I see it, somewhat higher tuition at TSC (in comparison to other community colleges) was the price paid for students to also have access to a local 4-year university nearby. It was a bad deal for those who only wanted an Associates degree and a good deal for those who wanted a Bachelor's degree (or higher). Now that the separation is occuring there will (supposedly) be tuition at TSC more in line with other community colleges. The remaining question is if TSC can actually survive.

@ "The remaining question is if TSC can actually survive."

The question is will UTB survive. It is just going to be a satellite campus because Austin figured out that the idiot leaders in Brownsville can not run the University. They are even taking the UT name away because they are embarrassed to have the UT name on such bad graduation rates. University for the Americas in the Rio Grande Valle.
