CALLS GROW IN US, MEXICO TO FREE MARINE IN MATA PRISON

(Ed.'s note: Voices from both sides of the border, including a petition signed by 14,000 Mexican businessmen associated with the Mexican Chamber of Commerce, are calling on Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto to order the release of U.S. citizen and former Marine Jon Hammar. Our post two days ago has drawn responses both pro and con on the subject. Hammar, a combat veteran of both Iraq and Afghanistan, was arrested in Matamoros and is awaiting trial for bringing in his great grandfather's shotgun into the country thinking that merely registering it with authorities on both sides of the border was enough to permit him to do so. He was arrested and charged with bringing in a prohibited firearm into Mexico and is awaiting trial in solitary confinement in Santa Adelaida prison in the outskirts of Matamoros. An attempt by inmates associated with the Gulf Cartel to extort $1,800 from his family in Florida led prison officials to segregate him from the general population. Some of our commenters differ on their opinion in the case. Their comments are below.)

Anonymous: Just for the record and information to those that have much interest in this case, Its going to be very hard for Mexico and for President-Peña Nieto to release this US Marine out to the world just like nothing.
The kid might be innocent, but Mexican authorities are asses when it comes to a US Citizen. I will suggest to the people that are handling this case to get an attorney and the attorney has to go to the consulate and request a TREATY TRANSFER TO THE UNITED STATES.
This means that both governments agree in exchanging citizens. In order for this to happen the kid needs to have a clean record here in the US to be able to qualify for such action or exchange.
If you know who I am, I HAVE ALL THE CONNECTIONS TO DO ALL THIS PROCESS, BECAUSE THIS SHIT HAPPENED TO ME IN MEXICO ((but different case).GET IN CONTACT WITH ME AND I WILL HELP YOU.
It's a very hard and sad situation for family and for this victim. I will help you out just to be nice and courteous. I have no money interest but I will connect you with the right people here in Brownsville and in Matamoros. :)
At least he will get to fly in a Federal Government plane like I did and escorted by 13 federal Mexican officers inside the plane. They will video tape the whole incident as soon as he steps out of jail and taken to the airport. The airport will be surrounded by Federal officers and its a big emotion, NEVER TO BE FORGOTTEN!! :(
Everything is possible and fast if you people have money to pay the attorney for the process of paper work and everything that comes with it.

Anonymous 1: He broke that country's criminal law. Right or wrong, we can't force a foreign country to abate their criminal enforcement any more than we would allow Mexico to convince us to free a Mexican in our prison who breaks our laws. Period. Wake up people.

Anonymous 2: Yeah! Allow him to get raped by los Zetas for taking his grandfather's single shot .410 shotgun into Mexico.

The interns will not do anything bad to this guy, I promise you guys that, he looks in a very bad condition I feel sad for him and the family, plus I feel for him because hes one of our soldiers from US, I think its time to act and help this guy to be released, as I said before, US can request his transfer to the US grounds, this needs to be done fast before more time passes by, again..if you know who I am, get in contact with me, I have my attorney that took care of my issue very well and fast from Matamoros to the US, I can help if you guys want my help. Better yet the consulate can help very fast since he is a US Citizen, US will never abandon one of his Citizens in another country, again all this takes time (paper work process), you guys need to start acting fast, my best wishes for this guy, and for the ones that have a bad mouth against him, you guys be quiet, we all make mistakes and we are no one to be judeging, we have all fucked up at one time, so relax and be kool.
