HERNANDEZ, MARTINEZ AND BARRERA: THE UNHOLY ALLIANCE

By Juan Montoya
By now it has become abundantly clear to all but those who choose to hide their head in the sand that the Second Coming of Tony Martinez was nothing short of the coming of the Antichrist.
We should have known it when his partner Horacio Barrera defended Erin Hernandez Garcia (Ernie Hernandez's daughter) on the charges of voter fraud brought by the Yolanda Begum campaign. Barrera himself admitted that he did this pro bono, that is, free of charge for his buddy Ernie.
Now we know that it was Barrera who negotiated with the city over the $2.3 million purchase of the Casa del Nylon and a smaller adjacent property.
With these kind of connections, can anyone really doubt that Tony is a deals man who will not flinch when handing out the public's money to his buddies?
With his pious Catholic connections and holier-than-thou attitude toward city government, Martinez has slid under the radar of public scrutiny. It won't be until he has raided the candy store and given it over to the United Brownsville shadow government under the tutelage of Juliet Garcia and Fred Rusteberg that we may wake up to find Brownsville no longer belongs to the people, but to the schemers behind the scenes aided and abetted by Hizzoner.
Commissioner Ricardo Longoria, the Southmost representative who has been relegated to the role of a commission doorman, stated it best when he wrote that:
"There are many things going on in this city that had not happened in a very long time. Many dealings are going on behind closed doors, contracts are being signed by an elected official without the consent of the City Commission or City Manager (Bannergate), and micromanagement with a bullying effect is occurring that has our directors and staff showing up to work wondering when their last day might be. We meet and it is an 'Oh I'm sorry I forgot to tell you guys about this, my mistake, you know I just didn't think that I had to tell you,' and the best one, '"I've been working on this on my own time and money so that this can happen, so I ask you to support it.' Yet at no time were any of us involved or at the meetings.
There are many things going on during this administration and I am saddened to see that at a time when the people of Brownsville should be going up in an uproar about the way this City Commission is running the city they are not. Yet, at times when commissions of the past were doing well for its citizens you had to sit there and take the insults and false accusations."

Welcome to the club, Ricky.

You can't leave out Barrera's other (besides Hernandez) old college roommate, Carlos Cascos. He is right in the middle of it all. In fact he saw to it that Barrera got a lucrative lawsuit representing the County against the Tompkins family property that the Tompkins deeded to the County 25 or 30 years ago and now have recently come back wanting the land back or to be compensated millions for the land. Besides just pushing numbers around as an accountant, he likes to push buttons also, especially when they benefit him or his friends. But he does like to keep a low profile, God forbid the general public found out about all of his wheelings, dealings, shenanigans, and late night rendezvous.

And the problem is not just the wheeling and dealing, it's that we're not talking joe Jamail here folks. Hell, we''re not even talking Jose Jamale either. Horacio Barrera is a friggin' idiot!

The Tomkins heirs want the land back or a cash equivalent because Carlos and company allowed a hotel to be built on Andy Bowie Park. This violated the Tomkins deed and he knew it would. He allowed this to happen while his constituents were busy with saving Isla Blanca Park from private development. Most likely, Cascos won't be going any further in his "public service" career. He has shown himself to be a snake, like the others.

Hey Longoria, don't be scared bro. You're being bullied? Bring that shit to me man. We will stand behind you again. Just don't turn your back on us when we disagree next time...don't look at us as if we are strangers. It took you awhile to catch on. Now that you can see what we see now will you again be a man of and for the people. We understand the temptation. We even understand the giving in to temptation. But we will not ignore your misdeeds. You are still a commissioner. Start acting like one. Fight these people with us. With us! The people that elected you are the only people that you can trust. Remember that. Don't forget it. You don't tell us when you are doing well for us, Ricky, we will tell you. Martinez is not the antichrist. Don't give him such credit. He is a puny, waste of space. A piss poor excuse for a man who lacks any imagination and and is such a pussy that he gets pushed around by his so called friends, all of the time. Not sure if the guy can still think for himself. He's been on script since day one. Working on his own...yeah...right.....

Cascos was not the county judge when the Andy Bowie hotel negotiations were begun. So to blame him for that is a falsehood. Barrera was brought in with a unanimous vote of the commission, so now cascos controls the 4 democrats on the commission?

This is off the subject, but earlier you posted that Zayas and Cortez had been summoned by Judge Hanen to sign off on the Juarez settlement. Is there a follow up story or as to what happened or was your post in error?

Carlos, you saw that deal through and did it without the legally required public hearings. The litigation on that fiasco is far from over.
