AMEEL'S ATTORNEY GET $19,000; SHE, A JOB FOR 2 YEARS
By Juan Montoya
Way back when, in the days when the trustees of the Brownsville Independent School District were trying to implement the STAMP (Science Technology, Architecture, and Medical Professions) College Preparatory Program at underused Veterans Memorial High School, a small group of students and parents resisted the change.
They organized a protest to coincide with the presentation by Superintendent Carl A. Montoya and trustees at the school to explain the benefits of the program. At that time, there were reports that the core group against the implementation of the STAMP program had been allowed to meet and organize in Principal Acacia Ameel's office at the school.
Veterans, parents, students and even opportunistic rabble-rousers from Cheezmeh formed the nucleus of the protest.
Montoya removed Ameel from the helm at Veterans Memorial following a board meeting at which plans for the STAMP College Preparatory Program at the school were first presented.
The agreement between both parties warded off two other lawsuits filed by by Ameel's attorney John Shergold against the BISD.
District counsel Arturo Michel told the local daily that one alleged violations of the Texas Open Meetings Act, the other violations of the Family and Medical Leave Act.Further, lawsuits alleging violations of the Equal Employment Opportunity Act and of Ameel’s First Amendment rights had been pending, Michel said.
The BISD board voted 4-1 to approve settling all claims with trustees Herman Otis Powers Jr., Luci Longoria, Minerva Peña and Christina Saavedra voting for the settlement, while board President Enrique Escobedo voted against. Trustees Hector Chirinos and Catalina Presas-Garcia were not present.
Michel said BISD continued to stand by the decisions that resulted in Ameel’s removal as principal and her eventual reassignment as BISD’s administrator of Advanced Academic Services where she is guaranteed at least two years at the position contingent on her performance being satisfactory. In a statement as reported to the Herald, the district stated that: “BISD continues to believe its actions were justified but chooses to minimize expenditures by paying a modest amount, far less than trying a single lawsuit, to eliminate four lawsuits or potential lawsuits. The payment is expected to cover attorney’s fees; this matter does not involve loss of pay.”
Currently, Ameel is the administrator of Advanced Academic Services, and Michel said that there would be a “compensation change and some additional duties.”
Shergold – eyeing the $19,000 payment for attorneys fees – was happy and told the Brownsville Herald he was "pleased with the way things turned out."
“Mrs. Ameel stood for what was right and is happy with the outcome of her case,” Shergold said. “She looks forward to working for the good of the school district and, more importantly, to working for the good of the students.”
Yeah.

Yeah! Shaegold is beginning to look and sound like an opportunistic and fictitious litigant.
So he milked 19K from this one?
What about the other clients he and Mula Saldana solicit?
Nora Torres...
19,000 dollars that could have been used to install security cameras at our schools. BISD Keeps wasting money on frivolous things rather than where they are truly needed. Why remove Mrs Ameel in the first place when she was doing a good job???
To Nora, No one was removed is that people get reassigned, that is part of the contract.
Remember when Amil was in the Glass palace for almost a year doing nothing? Just waiting for VMHS to open?
How come Amil didn't complained on that reassignment??
La pendeja de Minerva Pena should be ashamed of herself for giving so much to those that should not have it and for not giving to those that needed it. The BISD chess program is one of those program that comes to mind, that need it: she’s always crying and bitching that funding is always lacking for the chess program, yet, she squanders thousands of dollars on self-serving programs such as, the Chamber of Commerce, United Brownsville, the Gladys Porter Zoo, etc., that give or offer nothing in return to the school district. Now, this???? Brownsville voters should be ashamed of themselves for electing inept, morons to office. Wait until your property taxes go up or BISD asks for another Bond Issue, then you, the taxpayer, will begin to wake up and smell the coffee!!!!!
Nothing wrong with reassignments but do it in a professional manner. Don't do it overnight just because you're an Atkinson and want to use your position to rule. Montoya n the board could've waited a couple of weeks and made the move in a subtle way. Or how about consulting with the district's attorneys before making moves. Bottom line is we have ignorant people in high positions with personal agendas and they don't give a shit what we have to say. As long as their friends and families are taken care of. I guess the ex Hanna coach is next in line to get a piece of the pie.
Oh Cata you're the only inept one up there. You are the one who has cost the district millions. You'd probably out a few more if Trevino had sued. Maybe she will now that you've lost control of the board.
WOW Cata, it is so obvious that you are the one writing January 26, 2013 at 12:53 PM. Now you are even attacking the Porter Zoo! You say that the Porter Zoo offers nothing in return to the school district? You are a total NUT case, if you do not understand what the Zoo offers our students!
Wait a minute cata! Ameel wasn't reassigned to Veterans; she applied for that position and assembled her staff to open a new school that wasn't ready. And as to the dumb ass remark by Juan that the school was under utilized, it was planned that way. It began with two grade levels and was going to grow each year with new freshmen. This would allow the funding to come in incrementally and ease the load on the district. Get the facts right Juan Garcia!
You just have to love this district....ha ha ha !

Leave otis, and Minerva alone, they believe is ok if they take care of their family and friends.....
10:41 comment, you need to get your facts straight, veterans was suppose to be a technical, agriculture campus but again Ameel didn't want to deal with these type of students. She only wants the elite students since she thinks she's so high & mighty and too good to service students from low income families.
She should have been fired instead of reassigned. She's going to pay for taking our childrens' money. She's a mean wicked witch, just ask the faculty at Stell and the staff in the dept. She's at right now.
Wow!! How obvious Minerva Pena shows her true colors and shows how political she really is. She sure doesn't have any quarms dipping into the fund balance this time around. She suddenly forgot this money belongs to our students.
What a two face bitch, she's even spending more taxpayers money on two trips to Washington and Austin. What happen to "I'll fight anybody for the money that belongs to our students". What a bitch!
Shame on Shergold for biting the hand that feeds him and his wife. Shame on Ameel too.
Below post is from Cata La Rata Presas! What a Jealous Loser! Again making up lies!!!!
