Austin attorney Marc Rosenthal will be held in federal custody until his June 3 following his conviction on 13 counts related to the corruption and racketeering case of former 404th District Court Abel Limas.
Judge Andrew Hanen ordered federal Marshals to hold him in custody until his sentencing. Federal procedure calls for a presentence recommendation report by federal probation officers before the judge hands down his sentence.The Brownsville Herald's Emma Perez-Trevino, who has been covering the trial in Corpus Christi indicated that Asst. U.S. Attorney Michael Wynne had mentioned that the body of convicted Port Isabel attorney Ray Marchan had not been found after he was reported to have jumped off the Queen Isabella Causeway early today.
Marchan was to have reported to federal prison in Ft. Worth to serve a three-year sentence for bribery and racketeering in connection to the Limas investigation and conviction.
As Emma reported, the 13 counts against Rosenthal charged with with "conspiring to bribe Limas for favorable court rulings, bribing witnesses, filing false personal injury cases, directing others to pay people including funeral home directors and a public employee to refer cases to him, arranging to manipulate case assignments at the Cameron County District Clerk’s Office, and paying witnesses for false testimony and statements."
Hanen had revoked his $100,000 bond previously for violating the conditions of his bond and pre-trial release by bear-hugging former State Rep. Jim Solis, also convicted on charges related to the Limas corruption case, and drinking alcohol in a local club.
Rosenthal will doubtlessly appeal his convictions.
