Anywhere else, if you knew that your name was among those targeted by the federal government investigating judicial and prosecutorial misconduct and corruption in the local courts, the honorable thing would be to resign.
The logic of shame goes thus: Why subject yourself, your family and your relatives and friends to the ordeal of public scrutiny and verguenza when you know the proof is there if not to convict you, then to besmirch nay kind of reputation you might have built up over the years as a practicing attorney, and now a judge?
But this is not anywhere. This is Cameron County. This is where lawyers, judges and former prosecutors bite the bullet and hunker down stubbornly until they are dragged away from their positions kicking and screaming.
Last January we published a post on this blog that 444th District Judge David Sanchez might resign over his connections to disgrace former 404th District Judge Abel Limas and indicted DA Armando Villalobos. It didn't happen then, but the wheels of the gods do, indeed, grind slowly.
The first to resign over his role in the nefarious goings on in the judicial wing of the Cameron County judicial wing was 357th District Judge Leonel Alejandro for being "friendly" to Limas and convicted Austin attorney Marc Rosenthal. Befoer the whole bushel of dirty laundry was aired, Alejandro stepped down.
Not so Sanchez, the brother of would-be county judge and current Pct. 4 commissioner Dan Sanchez.
But, as usual, the Valley Morning Star's Emma Perez-TreviƱo, digging through the cesspool of federal indictments and supplements, uncovered the germ of alleged misconduct attributed to the judge.
According to federal prosecutors (and Emma's reporting), "Villalobos hired Justin Ramos, a campaign worker who he had known in political circles, to work in the DA’s office in the spring of 2005, and had DA investigator Joe Lopez, who now is a city commissioner in Rio Hondo, issue Ramos an investigator’s badge.
Ramos, according to public records, was prevented from carrying a firearm as a result of a criminal record.
Federal prosecutors say Ramos made two cash payments to Villalobos totaling $3,000 to $4,000 to have charges against him resolved or reduced. One case was dismissed, and Ramos received probation in the other case.Prosecutors further allege that Villalobos prepared the necessary documents, or had them prepared, to expunge Ramos’ conviction, and arranged 'directly through the clerk’s office to have the expungement petition land in Abel Limas’ court,” according to court records.
Villalobos also appointed Sanchez, a practicing lawyer at the time, as a special prosecutor to handle the case.
“Ramos met with Limas in chambers, and Limas agreed to sign off on the expungement as long as state officials did not ‘fight it,’” prosecutors state.
“Ramos paid Sanchez $1,000 directly so Sanchez would not contest the expungement as special prosecutor,” federal prosecutors allege, adding that Ramos paid Villalobos $3,000 to facilitate the process for the expungement.
Prosecutors also state that Ramos used drug trafficking money to pay Sanchez and Villalobos, and Ramos would testify that Villalobos knew Ramos was involved in drug trafficking while Ramos was employed by the District Attorney’s Office.
“State officials in Austin objected to the effort to expunge Ramos’ conviction, and the effort eventually failed,” federal prosecutors state.
The prosecutors further noted that Ramos would testify that Villalobos told him they both could make money by referring civil and criminal cases to Lucio."
Well, there you have it. Ramos will testify that Sanchez took $1,000 in drug money and agreed with Villalobos not to contest the expungement of Ramos' cases while entrusted by the state to fulfill his duties to the public as special prosecutor.

Hope this fat fuck doesn't jump off the causeway..... He will cause a tidal wave!
Both Judge Dan and County Commissioner David Sanchez had a "travelling" relationship with Judge "Disable" Limas. Both of the Sanchez behemoths took in Spurs games and visited Las Vegas with Limas....and probably not on their dime. When the Sanchez bothers arrived here from law school, they made statements that they wanted to be in politics....and they are in the middle of it and seem to be a part of Cameron County corruption. They must have rolled over to the Dumbokratic Party way of doing business....and when they roll over, that's a lot of pork rolling over. Both Dan and David should resign from office. But of course they will not, they will force the taxpayers to foot the bill for them to go down in glory.
Wow, I am still in shock to find out what David Sanchez did? But, I got to question how a Chief Investigator like Joe Lopez can give a badge to Justin Ramos, who turns out to be a convicted felon? Didn't this Joe Lopez have the balls to tell Armando Villalobos that this guy was a convicted felon much less not a police officer? What other idiotic stunts has this Joe Lopez done while in office? Is that idiot still in the DA office with Luis Saenz? Mr. Montoya, wasn't this Michelle Garcia person the court coordinator for Abel Limas before being hired by Armando? Is she going to be Indicted too since she wanted to pay another employee more money so ARmando could have a home since he got kicked out? God, I hope she isn't still working in that office? It sounds like the corruption in that office and courthouse was seeping out of every crack?
"The honorable thing to do is resign"...Ya think! But there is no honor among thieves.

It is no secret that Cameron County has one of the most corrupt court systems. It is a shame that these judges and attorneys claim to be on the side of justice when in all actuality they are only there to further their own personal agendas and increase their bank accounts. Families suffer while Judges like Sanchez and the attorneys working in the family courts claim they have the best interests of the children at heart. Judge Sanchez presided over a child custody dispute where the evidence was overwhelmingly in favor of the mother and even the opposing council said they could find no fault in her to prove the kids should not be with the mother, but allowed a ruling against the mother removing the children and naming the father sole managing conservator. Judge Sanchez prevented the children involved from testifying in the case even though the children made it clear to him in his chambers that they all wished to live with their mother. He even awarded the guardian ad litem, Ruth Gomez Serra, over $11,000.00, even after she openly admitted on the stand, under oath that she did not fulfill her duties and never took any time to gather any facts about the case or the parties involved. The ruling in this case was not based on the facts and evidence presented. This ruling was reached because of backroom deals and using influence to further peoples' political agendas. So, I ask you. How is it okay for these people to continue to dictate and destroy people's lives? Justice does not exist in Cameron County unless you have the money to pay for it. The rest of us hard working, honest people suffer the consequences of their selfish behavior.
Well guess what everyone because of him n Gloria M. Rincones my children were taken away. Its messed up that he allowed a order of removal and given to a father with criminal history. Its outrageous!!!! Especially when the bailiff has ties to the 357th. Judge
That Gloria Rincones lady seems to get extra special attention in David Sanchez court.
He is a disgrace. Plays with his phone while people tell their personal stories and doesn't listen to them. Has to have reporter read back testimony when asked to rule because he's distracted with his texts or whatever. If this $1000 bribe is true hope they kick him off the bench if they don't indict him. His mug is now the poster child for Cameron County court corruption. Disgraceful man.
Juries, not judges, decide custody issues. Don't blame the judge for custody issues.
Actually the. Judge decides.. Especially when it comes to restraining orders.. If u knew the situation u would understand
Yes she does.. N it sucks cuz of that n her money hungry n mentality my children were sent to a convict who lives with his mom n of course the brother is the bailiff for the.357 so he has to help
MISST05 is JAN CASSIDY. She is so bitter that she lost the bid for the 444th District Court. Jan always complains about all the judges and "her work." She is totally unprepared for court, unorganized, and dresses shabby. There was "NO BACK ROOM DEALS." We, the jury (12 people), saw pictures of your client's unkept house, tiolets full of shit, dirty kitchen, and trashbags full of trash everywhere. We were well aware that two children wanted to live with the mother because YOU agreed to that and told us that. Mom was busy chasing men and the oldest boy was being the parent to those kids. Mom couldn't keep a job. I remember ad litem traveling to Houston to see how the kids were living. STOP BLAMING EVERYBODY ELSE FOR YOUR UNPREPAREDNESS!
There are about 90 lawyers certified to be parent facilitators. If you, parent, are ordered a parent facilitator it is cause you and the other parent cannot communicate. Only a few (handful) of lawyers actually want that work, to listen to two adults, who CAN NOT get along. We listen to people's "DRAMA" everyday. Every parent MUST take responsibility for their actions and stop blaming the judges, lawyers, adl litems, and facilitators when the JURY rules against you! THAT'S THE RISK YOU TOOK!
nothing but shit
Both brothers are worthless!!!
Anon 3/29 @ 1:38 PM: I happen to know FOR A FACT that "Miss T" is NOT Jan Cassidy. Nor was it I. But since you appear hell-bent on smearing Ms. Cassidy ~ probably for a perceived slight ~ let me set the record straight.
First, only her colleagues, family and friends refer to her as Jan. Strangers do not.
Secondly, I do not believe for a minute that you're a juror who sat through the trial about which "Miss T" comments. Not for a minute! Instead, you and I both know who you are; you give yourself away with your catty remarks and insights of which only a colleague might be aware, not a juror.
Jurors would not be privy to Ms. Cassidy's ALLEGED complaints about judges or her workload. They would not be aware of her ALLEGED unpreparedness for court or ALLEGED disorganization, as she was thoroughly prepared and organized for the trial in question, with PowerPoint presentations and orderly exhibits pre-numbered and computerized for easy display to the court.
Third, I sat through that entire trial and heard the very same evidence you and the jury heard. I was as moved as anyone in that courtroom when the husband testified about taking care of the wife during her few weeks of bed-ridden, post-op recovery during the period the divorce was pending. But I also understood that his doing so gave him motive and opportunity to allow the trash to accumulate during that time so that the photos he presented would APPEAR to be the conditions she lived in with the children. He even lied about photos of rashes on one child, first saying it was during the time she had custody, but later admitting the photos were a few years old, during a different time.
Fourth, if you were a juror, you would then know that NOT ONE SCINTILLA of evidence or testimony was presented during that week of trial of the wife, as you say, "chasing men." The husband did not plead adultery, nor was there any evidence to support your assertions. So we both know you are NOT a juror!
I do like the self-serving comment about the ad litem traveling all the way to Houston. Perhaps the ad litem should have traveled to the marital residence just once during the period she was ad litem. AND ~ get this! ~ maybe the ad litem would not have had to travel to Houston if the ad litem had not overstepped her authority and advised another attorney's client to set up residency in Houston! Yes, there IS evidence of THAT, via texts and phone records and the wife's subsequent leasing of an apartment. (continued next comment)
...Fifth, Ms. Cassidy is NOT bitter about having lost the nomination for the 444th. There are many days she returns from court with parties "hanging from the rafters," that she's grateful Judge Sanchez won! A juror on that trial would not know how she felt about that election in 2008 one way or another, as all jurors stated they did not know her during voir dire.
Which brings me to my conclusion: Before you go off accusing someone of anything, as you have my sister, get your facts straight and know what you're talking about. In your haste to lash out over your embarrassment by the comments made by "Miss T," you injured an innocent party. Happens all the time, I know. But when you do that to my sister and your comments are so transparent as to reveal who you are, Ms...well, you should not have done that. But, that's just your modus operandi and what makes you famous among your colleagues, isn't it ~ reporting things that have no basis in fact.
When I conclude this comment, I am reaching out to the wife and offering my assistance in filing a complaint against you with the Office of the General Counsel of the State Bar of Texas for your gross incompetence and dereliction of the duty you were asked to perform by the court. You single-handedly did more harm to a mother and her 5 children by YOUR lying, incompetence, bill padding and unpreparedness than any licensed professional can be allowed.
But first I must reach out to my sister and tell her, if she doesn't already know, about your libelous comment. You are a despicable person!
Anon 1:44, You're a lawyer! "We listen to people's DRAMA..." Word of advice: If you can't stand listening to "DRAMA," get a new profession!!! OMG!!! Can't believe you would comment anonymously, tarnishing the reputations of all the lawyers who do care! You're only in it for the money, that's clear. You're probably the same scumbag ad litem Miss T05 was talking about. This is a Cameron County lawyer, people! What a scumbag!
