At an asking price of only $929,000, it's a steal by South Padre Island standards.
But if you have a few bucks to spare, this could be your dream home away from home.
The Realtor selling this home on Gulf Blvd. describes it as a "cozy 3-story seaside cottage across the street from the beach. Living area, 2 bedrooms and 1 bath, 1-car garage, large storage room, laundry room, plus a bonus room and bath on the ground floor. Living/dining/kitchen, bathroom, and master bedroom and bath on the 2nd floor, 3rd floor is large loft area with a bedroom and game/sitting area. Nice balcony on the front, large back balcony wraps around to the side where there is another view of the gulf. Extra large fenced yard. This is a great beach home with lots of room for company."
With four bedroom and three full baths, taxes on the property are a measly $11,165 a year. Built in 1979, it only costs $3,500 a year to insure.
If you are a college professor or an employee for a large institution, it would be the perfect place to entertain the likes of the UT Regents or just about anyone who you'd want to impress.
Yup, as the UTB-TSC separation draws near, UTB President Juliet Garcia has decided to ditch her digs on the Island and has it on the multiple listing service of local real estate.
The property covers less than an acre, but as far as real estate at SPI, and across from the beach, it's a little fixer-upper any professor or teaching instructor would give his eyeteeth to possess.
We read in the local daily that her financial officer Rosemary Martinez has met with some of those UTB employees who have received pink slips to give them words of encouragement. In these days of belt-tightening, we must all make sacrifices. That President Garcia would let go of this second home is to lead by example.
Now that the final stages of the separation from TSC are around the corner, we sympathize with the Pres that there won't be enough on her $350,000 annual salary to make end meet and keep the "cozy, 3-story seaside cottage" anymore.
Sacrifices, as you can see, must be made by all of us.

Vulgarity knows no bounds. I am a university professor and this is typical of "administrative" largesse. Lo mas triste, es que ella no tiene la mas mínima vergüenza. Esta enferma esa mujer. Que poca madre.
Damn, and here I am, living in a Traila House!

Did she inherit the beach house from the Kardenas Klan as she did her digs here in town...the former home of J.T. Canales....after the TSC Trustees renovated. Juliet is a leach on the tax payers and yet she is insulated by people like United Brownsville and Mayor Tony Martinez.
Dear Mr. Montoya:
As a recent UTB grad, I am wondering if Mrs. Garcia might like to tun her beach house into a job-search center for the staff members who have lost their jobs. It would be a simple matter to install a bank of phones and computers out there, and the proximity to the beach might serve to lift the spirits of those who would like to take a stroll. Otherwise, some of the proceeds of the sale could be used as unemployment stipends. What do you think? Would Mrs. Garcia entertain these philanthropic ideas? Thanks!

La Reina lives in an entitled world all right. A million dollar second home. Wow. Not bad for a public servant who never had a real job in the real world! If you see her you'll realize that what didn't go to her head went to her ass.
The house in Rio Viejo, the former home of J. T. Canales, was never owned nor renovated by the TSC Trustees!
That house was purchased by the State of Texas for housing the President of Pan American University at Brownsville.
After she became President of UTB she was allowed to live in that home. Sometime later she and her husband purchased that home.
Keep slurping the cool aid...
Utb workers have for years spent tuition dollars primping up the "Garcia"Estate in Rico Viejo. Inside maids on the utb payroll change diapers on old oscar, who hasnt done a lick of work in this century. When he does hire la gente they dont get social security, do you think? These people are object lessons in the ugliness of pride, which they say goeth before the fall. My colleagues on the faculty at UTB ask this question: this fall? Please?!
And all the landscaping, who paid for that? The answer is you did, I did, we all did.
