TONY OLIVEIRA, RENE'S BRO, PASSES AWAY

Special to El Rrun-Rrun
When I used to run into Tony Oliveira at Royston, Rayzor, Vickery & Williams, L.L.P. law firm where he worked on Paredes Line Road, the last thing we talked about was local politics.
Even though he had been the chairman of his precinct for the Democratic Party for decades, politics seemed to be the last thing on his mind when he hooked up with friends and acquaintances.
Given the fact that the Oliveiras have been one of the most well-known political families in Southern Cameron County and reared on Democratic Party politics, it would have been expected that Tony would have been immersed in the inside workings of the party, as was his mother Gloria, who died a few years ago.
Tony, as his friends knew him, died Sunday night, apparently of a heart attack. He was 53.
He was the brother of State Representative René O. Oliveira.
He might have been a Democratic Party stalwart during election time, but any other time he just seemed to enjoy chewing the fat and trading sports and local gossip with the rest of us.
In a statement released by Rene Oliveira, he said: "Tony was an amazing brother, loving husband, and devoted father. He worked countless hours with kids in Brownsville on a variety of athletic teams and other charitable endeavors. He always tried to help less fortunate people, and I think he was an outstanding role model to the young people he helped. He will be missed terribly."
Oliveira is survived by his wife Laurie, and two sons, Devon and Garrett.
Family friends say that even though an official cause of death has not been issued, Tony had lost some 40 pounds over the last few months and that it may have had something to do with his sudden demise.
Funeral services are pending.

"HIS KID AND MY BOYS PLAYED FOOTBALL TOGETHER AT ST.JOE"

Ya salio el peine! Ay si yo mande mis chavalos a la St. Joe, que chingon. Para eso me gustabas Maclovio, no que eras "La Voz del Pueblo"? Eres "La voz de La St. Joe Mafia"!

I don't think to many of your fellow citizens can say they send their kids to la St. Joe.

I'll make sure to check with my frineds from La Southmost, La Muralla, and Las Prietas. Quien sabe, a la mejor ellos tambien tienen sus chavalos en la St. Joe.

PS: Have you told Mchale que u are part of the "elite" of Brownsville?
