VILLARREAL SICS "OUR STAFF" ON PEREZ-GARZORIA, SARKIS

By Juan Montoya
On Sunday we told you about the shenanigans that incumbent District 4 commissioner John Villarreal was pulling to harass challenger Letty Perez-Garzoria as she campaigns to unseat him.
First, an inspector from the Brownsville Health Department was sent to investigate whether the firefighters grilling the chicken quarters for the BBQ plates had a permit to cook the meat.
Later, Villarreal personally complained to a private EMS company out of Port Isabel that a crew was wasting public funds because they stopped to receive a plate donated to them by the Perez-Garzoria campaign when they were passing by on the way back from taking a patient to a local hospital.
Now we learn that City Manager Charlie Cabler and a contingent of Browntown's finest showed up to  warn the firefighters and campaign supporters about holding their signs on the street and potentially obstructing traffic.
Now, to most people who heard about this through social media (Villarreal posted a photo of the EMS unite stopped at the campaign site getting their plate of donated BBQ chicken), this seemed a bit heavy handed and some even called him a "bully."
In an online chat, Villarreal referred to the Brownsville police as "my staff."
This is the same John we love and know. Remember during last year's Earthfest when he called out Cabler and city administrators to kick out Mary Helen Flores who was running the tent for the Citizens Against Voter Abuse (CAVA) and had her ejected from the premises with the threat that he would vote to cut off funding for this year's event?
Well, he failed in that attempt to intimidate his fellow commissioners to follow his lead. But why the angst over the CAVA tent?
Well, John knew that then-candidate for Pct. 2 county commissioner Ruben Peña had acquired proof he said showed that his political ally (and now in-law) Ernie Hernandez had manipulated the walk-in and mail-in votes in the county commissioner's race and said he didn't want politics mixed in with Eathfest.
This morning, during early voting at the Central Public Library, a police unit showed up and admonished the supporters of the Perez-Garzoria and Sarkis campaigns about stepping out form the sidewalk onto the bike (parking) lane of Central Blvd. Not only did the officer talk to the camapign workers on the library side of the street, but also made it a point to warn the worker holding signs for Perez-Garzoria and Robert Uresti.
With only five mail-in ballots in the Cameron County Elections office as of Monday morning, it is apparent that the politiquera mail-in votes that had provided Hernandez machine candidates with between 250 to 400 votes in local elections may not materialize because of the indictment and impending trial of politiquera Margarita Ozuna.
Is Villarreal afraid that Perez-Garzoria will beat him now that the removal of these votes provide a more-or-less level playing field?

Only two things are guaranteed in life: taxes and death.

Who doesn't owe taxes of some sort?

Owing $800, $300 is not criminal.

Hiding assets to avoid paying taxes is!

Using citizens' tax money for personal gain, definitely criminal!

Vote for Martin Sarkis for Brownsville City Commissioner district 3

i'm pretty sure that the P.I. EMS is a City department, just like ours. That said, they transport patients to Brownsville hospitals everyday, and they can grab a bite to eat whaerever they like as long as it is not too far out of the way.

I see Mr. Villareal is using his muscle to intimidate Lety and Sarkis. It isn't going to work, I hear the Feds are keeping an eye on the election.

How convenient. "You flag down a police officer and I'll take a photo so we can send it to the blogs and say Villarreal sent them." I think the desperate ones are the fire fighters who no longer have any votes on the commission because they have burned every bridge possible. Villarreal and Gowen will win easily and let's hope the new commissioner in district 3 will not be stupid enough to listen to those greedy bastards. They need to grow up and act more professional like the police do.

Batgirl, Zavaletta had more mail in votes. research before opening your piehole. Vete a. Sacarle piojos a tu abuela. Y deja de cagar el palo con pedos aguados.

Ha that is right!! All the candidates should Act as professional as John villarreal and Jesica tetrou!! What a joke, and don't be so confident about Norma Hernandez not stilling votes, I went to vote yesterday and there she was with a van full of people, the stupid Hernandez don't learn, until she lands behind bars

Politics are dirty and desperate.they even hit high schools now to talk and encourage to vote for change. Letty and firemen visited a high school, in district 4, of course.

I am at teacher there and not only was this sponsered by the Government Club but Ms. Garzoria only encouraged students to reguster to vote.

Were other candidates invited too? Isnt there a policy against this? It seems fishy and i sure hope this candidate didnt take any student information back with her. Harvesting votes at our local schools is a big no no. Shame on administration for allowing this. It would make sense if the elections office spoke to our children and now a candidate seeking to get elected.

Students in schools have the capacity to think for themselves, we hope, and make informed decisions when exercising their right to vote.

The elderly in adult day care centers, many with dementia, cannot!!

These are the vulnerable and easy pick for dirty politicians!!

Shame on the day care directors for allowing any politics in these centers funded primarily by medicare and medicaid.

Investigate these elderly day care centers. You will be shocked at the extent of this abuse!

Oh shut up norma hernandez 12:39PM,the pot calling the kettle black.

If people were educated about the process they would know that - this is allowed in schools - this was no political forum it was a Register to vote Campaign ... The government class always sponsors it.... Which I think is a brilliant idea!!! This person just happened to be the one heading the campaign , she had NOTHING on her saying she was running for office ..... Or even mentioned it to students that were 18yrs & older registering to vote . My Government teacher gave me a card to register for graduation , best thing he could of done for me, but the sad thing about all this - is the dirty politics being played out in this City by ALL involved!!!! Candidates - campaign workers - elected Officials etc..... The City of Brownsville is doomed .... With such bad representation .

4:45, Shut up Jorge Lerma. Your sister, Principal Solis is being investigated for letting you campaign on campus. Even the teachers at Veterans are lining up to testify against her. Too bad she might lose her job over a worthless cause, Garzoria.

I agree it is a brilliant idea to have our youngsters excersise their rigjt to vote. just REALLY shaddy for the campus to invite ONLY a particular candidate who just happens to be running for city commissioner of that particular district.this particular candidate is backed up by firemen and an administrator from that campus is sibling to one of the firemen (who happens to be one of the most corrupt firemen). i guess it is ok for candidate and firemen to freely be politiqueros at our local schools. whatever dude it was wrong and a low play.

6:33, he even parades his son (who happens to be a student at veterans) outside the public library on central wearing a garzorria tshirt. Pero NO it was a harmless visit of firemen and garzorria at the high school. Brownsville do not vote garzorria. She is nuts and firemen, well actually, buc are worthless.

I see your point ....... Understandable, but it was not a candidate thing ... It was all about our future the kids .... Hopefully next year it can be done differently. Or even at a different location for ALL schools to participate !! No Firefighter - Political Candiate - or Administrator stood high during this process - only educating our kids about the right for thier voice to be heard ! What Not - difference of opinions will always be there - that's what makes this nation so unique :-)

Got to have an edge i say and in politics all is fair like love and war, so you do what you have to do to win, all your opponents will do the same if give the same chance, so dont worry be happy and just get out and vote and may the best vote getter win, thats how its done in brownsville and cameron county races and bisd i almost forgot o no? monkey

Brownsville cannot afford to elect two incompetent idiots like Uresti and Garzoria! I saw them at the debate last week at UTB and I made up my mind who I was voting for as soon as I heard the candidates introduce themselves. Uresti and Garzoria did nothing but attack their opponents and they never even mentioned what their platforms were or even bothered to answer the questions we submitted to the moderator. I learned nothing about those two candidates except that they like to be angry and complain.
