GRIM NEWS FOR ROLLIE OLVERA, COUNTY JUDICIARY

By Juan Montoya
Friends and relatives of 445th District Court Judge Rolando Olvera say an examination by Houston specialists have confirmed their worst fears; that the judge must undergo rigorous treatments to arrest a progressive case of leukemia just recently detected.
They say that for the next month or so he will have to undergo a chemotherapy
regimen prescribed by specialists in Houston.
Olvera, originally appointed by the Gov. Rick Perry in January of 2011, is also the administrative judge for the Fifth Administrative Judicial Region in Brownsville.
The state is divided into nine administrative judicial regions. The office of the Fifth Administrative Judicial Region (5th AJR)  was created by the legislature in 1927 and currently covers eleven counties.
These are Brooks, Cameron, Duval, Hidalgo, Jim Hogg, Jim Wells, Kenedy, Kleberg, Nueces, Starr and Willacy.
As a presiding judge, Olvera's duties include "promulgating and implementing regional rules of administration, advising local judges on judicial management, recommending changes to the Supreme Court for the improvement of judicial administration, and acting for local administrative judges in their absence. The presiding judges also have the authority to assign visiting judges to hold court when necessary to dispose of accumulated business in the region."
The judge's close associates say they remain hopeful that the aggressive regimen prescribed by his doctors will arrest the progress of the disease and that he will continue to carry out his duties in his court and the judicial region.

Our prayers are with Rollie and his family. Sorry to hear about this health problem and surely hope it can be arrested....not in the way his colleagues in Cameron County should be arrested.

Prayers to the judge and his family. I believe Judge Perkes with the 13th Court of Appeals has the same thing but is in complete remission.
