TEXAS RANGERS STEP INTO PORTILLO CASE

By Juan Montoya
Sources close to the Brownsville Police Department say that the local cops have handed over the complaint against City of Brownsville District 3 candidate Deborah Portillo to the Texas Rangers for investigation.
The complaint against Portillo – one of four candidates for the position left vacant by commissioner Melissa Zamora, was filed by Martin Sakis who noted that some of the $25,000 in contributions listed in her campaign contributions and expense report from March 1 through April 11 were listed as having been given to the candidate by corporations in violation of state law.
The Texas election Code states that candidates for public office commit a third-degree felony if they accept (and spend) contributions from corporations. Among some of the contributions in Portilo's campaign are listed several corporations such as hotel chains, and Jewelry Corner Inc.
Although sources did not reveal the status of the complaint, Rangers usually investigate and then turn over their findings to the local district attorney for his consideration of whether to prosecute or not.
A former candidate for office said that when heh ran against Abel Limas a few years back, one of the first things he was warned against was the acceptance of political contributions from corporations.
"There was a case where I received money from some attorneys who had a limited liability partnership and I found out that it was also considered a corporation," he recalled. "I didn't want to find out if it was and I returned the money. The Texas Attorney General has prosecuted case like this across the state. Her handlers should have warned her about this at the very beginning."
The Brownsville PD has been recalcitrant in the past to step into political disputes.
Just last year then-police chief Carlos Garcia declined to investigate the alleged illegal hiring of Roberto Cadriel by Cameron County after newspaper stories revealed that the county's Civil Service process may have been subverted by unknown individuals who may have taken the test on his behalf after he failed it twice.
Cadriel is the brother-in-law of Pct. 2 county commissioner Ernie Hernandez. The case was handed back to the county DA and is now in the hands of the Cameron County Sheriff's Department and DA investigators.
It is unknown whether the DA will act before the May 11 election.

I understand that in the Magic Valley the common defense for such charges is stupidity. In this case, the defendant will win hands down. However, I think you even get extra points when your own corporation violates the campaign contribution law. Este es un autogol.

Hopefully, the DA will prosecute the case if wrong doing is determined. Let us not forget, ignorance of the law is no defense.

Why can't or won't local law enforcement officials deal with this issue? Let's hope the Texas Rangers will be fair based on the allegded offense. Why didn't the Cameron County DA get this case? Can't we govern ourselves and judge ourselves down here????

Juan have you noticed that this Zarkis guy looks like a Matamoros candidate. The white shirt with his logo on it. He doesnt wear a suit and tie. He does petty things like filing criminal charges against a political opponent that intimidates him. Does this pendejo even speak "Ingleetch"? How can this bozo be a serious candidate for city office ?
I'm not voting for this idiot nor that other clueless Portillo woman.

Tell me the last significant arrest the Texas Rangers have accomplished in Cameron County? They have to carefully step over corruption so that they can get to the new scene of the crime. What have they done to Ernie who has dozens of petty crimes which equal to career criminal, but they just don't see him. He will die of old age as county commissioner waiting to be arrested. What a joke this is.

Montoya, ex-police chief Carlos Garcia was worthless. He obviously could be swayed to look the other way by anyone or maybe a certain few? Now, he is the police chief of the Port and maybe for one reason? That is the most crooked place other than the Limas fiasco? He is good at looking the other way. He allowed ex-cop Jimmy Marronqui sell his department with accident reports to the likes of Rosenthal an others. He allowed a ex-lieutenant get away with seducing his niece. Should I go on with this worthless excuse of to "protect and serve?

Sarkis filed on Thursday May 2and we are to beleive that the day before May 1 she returned the money and that same day May 2 they gave her a new check. The Brownsville Herald was bought by Mayor Tony Martinez and Carlos Marin. Did you see how much space they printed on the brownsville herald? 1/2 a page on the explanation of Tony Martinez. For those of us that are involved in poltics already had heard Tony's explanation of Debbies side of her screw up. This only proves Juan that you are right on saying Debbie is just the 4th vote for Tony Martinez. She has no clue or buisness running for Commissioner or even Mrs.Hooter Girl of the year. She can't represent Hooters or District 3..... I can't beleive 1/2 a page of Tony Martinez explanation of a 3rd degree felony. Puras Transas. Why would the Texas Rangers pick up on the case if there wasn't any wrong doing? Why didn't the Brownsville Herald post that the TEXAS RANGERS have her case?

Juan you should check how involved are the Gallegos on this one?
The Gargajos and Sucios house undocumented immigrants and charge the Federales a fee?

At the UTB Forum, at which only a pitiful handful of students attended, Portillo had the audacity to say that she learned at an early age "the importance of voting'!

This from one who has a sorry voting record!!

Sge had "no solutions" for downtown, and only cited Space X and Tenasca as job opprtunity options for UTB graduates!

She quoted San Antonio's mayor for Brownsville solutions!!

This idiot thinks that sex will get her elected! Sleeping with married men, showing off teeny boobs and ghostly colored legs...por favor!
