My wife Juanita and my sisters Norma Tamez and Gloria Montalvo all proved compatible donors. Gloria volunteered to be a donor. I was blessed and cannot thank all three enough for their willingness to donate one of their kidneys to let me live. I was fortunate to have spent only one year on the waiting list.
The skilled medical staff of the Methodist Specialty Hospital in San Antonio performed the miracle and I cannot thank them enough.
Like me, there are other people waiting for the generosity of a fellow human being – relative or not – who will donate an organ to give someone else the gift of life. I hope that others – like these three wonderful women in my life – will share this priceless gift with their fellow man. Please help them. I encourage you to be an organ donor.

The best post on this whole blog. I'm with you!
It's going to be two years on August 4th I received my kidney transplant. As many other recipients our stories are inspirational and unique. I was on hemo dialysis for three years until I received the call I have been waiting for, I was a compatible match with someone through a pair exchange program at University Transplant Center in San Antonio, TX. The program at UTC is when a altruistic donor will match the recipient that is not a match with their donor, but the recipients' donor is compatible with someone else on the waiting list In this case it was me. I have been a patient advocate since I started my dialysis and two months after my kidney transplant I became their Patient Navigator. As a Brownsville native I will continue to help all the people from the Valley. God Bless Everyone!
