In the face of pointed criticism at what the Mr. Amigo Association has become, the group's longtime members are apparently circling the wagons and pretending that the public has no right to to say anything about what they do.
Never mind that they are widely viewed as an exclusive group of elitists who feel that their station entitleds them to use the city's resources as they see fit and that no one has a right to complain about it. Judging by the majority of the comments that have arrived here, they are obviously very badly mistaken.
Their mission statement at right
shows that what may have started out as an admirable international friendship event way back when has now deteriorated to a week-long Bacchanalia limited to an exclusive number of participants who restrict the participation of local residents to the size of their monetary donations. This past celebration of Eduardo Yanez – in what has turned Brownsville into a stage for Televisa propaganda – was the culmination of this downward spiral.
Eugenio Derbez turned the group down because as a working actor, he could not afford to spend a week hanging out with the guys and watching them have a good time without compensation for his time except room and board.
Instead of listening to the long-simmering resentment against their clubby organization, they look around for someone to blame: the source of the "confidential" finance reports, the writer of this blog, "haters, "critics," etc.,
In coming President Luigi Cristinano has a golden opportunity to set a constructive course for the group's activities and direct it to give something back to the community that has subsidized it for so long. If indeed the aims of the Mr. Amigo Association is to foster goodwill, perhaps it should start in its own back yard.
Many current and former members remember that the groups had stated it would seen non-profit status and that it would build a Mr. Amigo Museum. There was even some talk about giving scholarships to needy deserving students in our high schools so they could continue their education.
Was that nothing but talk to silence the critics and keep the natives happy?
If the aim of the group is merely to fete a Televisa novela actor (actress) and treat its members to a yearly parranda, it should be preppared to face the gathering backlash from ordinary citizens who may not agree that their utility payments end up as a $10,000 donation to this exclusive club. They should also gird themselves to answer why their taxpayer-funded Brownsville Police Department should continue to pay its officers overtime, its taxpayer-funded public facilities available at their beck and call so a few "leading" citizens can wine and dine and rub elbows with a Mexican television personality.
The message above suggests that there is a "head in the sand" bunker mentality in the organization and  indicates that the "pioneer" Mr. Amigo members feel that the city and the residents owe them something merely for being who they are.
Will the group heed the storm of disapproval? Or will they continue their merry way and plan for the next parranda come hell or high water?

Thank you Juan for putting your foot up the organizations ass. Every politician both on the City and County uses thes organization to enhance their popularity and gather future votes while all along making it seem that they care for the citizens of Brownsville, TX. Charro Days and Sombrero Festival are INC and report their earnings to the IRS while Mr. Amigo is upset that the truth was made public????? Why then do they ask for sponsorships/donations from the city and then get upset when questioned where the money goes? If they don't want to be held accountable then they should pay their share to the city for their services instead of drinking and eating our money away. There is a lot of poor kids that could use shoes, back packs, school supplies and FOOD. Why should we give these people our hard earned money???? Why?????????? Who do they think they are????? Royalty????? Who doesn this Bob Torres Jr. think he is???? Son una bola de idiotas transas... Ratas.

Whatever you wrote made them react Juan. They have put some pictures back on their FB page. of couse they didn't put the pictures of the arrival of Eduardo Yanez Mr Amigo at the airport or the parade in Mexico. The rumor was that Mr. Amigo was kidnapped for a few hours in Matamoros and also arrived late to the parade in Matamoros because he had to first be introduced to some very colorful people. Wink Wink. Hey Yesnia who was driving the Jeep in Matamoros while your husband was holding on for dear life on the side? Pobre esposo estupido que tienes se ah de tomar bastante pastillas para el dolor de cabesa con los cuernos que le salen cada ratito.... UUUUYYYYY

This year many donations for Mr. Amigo were taken.
We were some of the "we forgot to invite you"
group.
How ironic that our money was good enough when you took it and that was the end. We might not be a big endorser but we gave what we could.
We're sure our amount helped your president pay for her half page ad on the Brownsville Herald she put only of herself the Sunday after Charro Days and is the only Mr. Amigo board picture/letter now found on your Mr. Amigo website ,

Mr. Amigo Association, you should reconsider
who you allow to return to your organization .

Some of us who support you are very disappointed.

Full of hate? Seriously? These guys have thin skin. A good way to argue against your article would have been to refute the facts. I suppose they can't do that, though.

Circling the wagons and being defensive seem to be a characteristic of local official and non-officials. They present petty arguments and when challenged they go for the throat as a defensive mechanism. The refusal to compromise causes many arguments to be extended and divide the community.

The boondoggle is a windfall for the pseudo cops. I meant suda cops.

It's funny how the CORRUPT ELITIST b HUSSEIN obama ADMINISTRATION IS BEING MIRRORED DOWN HERE WITH THE CORRUPT ELITIST MR. AMIGO ASSO., INCLUDING ALL LOCAL PUBLIC SECTOR ENTITIES CONTROL BY THE LEFT-democRATAS. I GUESS CORRUPTION BEGETS CORRUPTION.
THE SAD THING ABOUT IT ALL IS THE LOCAL YOKELS, LOW INFORMATION LEMMINGS DON'T SEE THE CONNECTION, HOW CORRUPT LIBERAL/COMMIES ARE.

Notice that in his post Mr. Torres did not address any of the criticisms of his association.

The mr. Amigo selection process is hilarious. You would be amazed at how many C level televisa "stars" turn down and decline the invitation. Remember the year they had a boxing promoter as mr amigo? Who the hell wants to come to Brownsville and matamoros to be dragged around like a rag doll and stay in a crap condo at rancho viejo. My biggest problem with the organization is the cost of the police dept. pay your own way. Stop those silly police escorts. I guess this is a big deal in a city that has nothing to be proud of.

So, in essence their response to those that dared to raise concerns about the running of the Mr. Amigo organization is, "Let them eat cake"?

Brownsville is a sad example of a "community", with the corruption widespread among the elected officials and the elitists grabbing whatever "goodies" they can reach. The soap opera is repeated in organization after organization: BISD, UTB, the City, the County, the Port Administration, and so forth. Now we also know it is repeated in the Mr. Amigo Association. Sad. Shameful.

If the association is a chartered nonprofit accepting donations, they must be accountable. Read the Sarbanes-Oxley Act which is Federal (US), law. Yes, Dorothy you are NOT in Mexico anymore.

Wow this is pretty spicy gossip!! Gotta get some popcorn to read all this bullshit gotta admit its entertaining! Amazing how people create their world of lies and then believe them.. first the heat was about the association and now its gotten a personal twist to the presidents personal life?? Sounds to me like someone who posted about her husband and Mexico parade is having a personal conflict rather than anything else...there will be many opinions out there, some good some bad..but at the end if you don't like it don't buy tickets, don't contribute to the associacion and move on! There will always be faithful people that will continue the tradition and generations to come and if you don't like it then you're fucked because life still goes on...maybe some of these people that sound so personally upset complaining here are those that wanted to be in this "elite" group but are rejects and are now making them look bad to feel good about themselves,I am a regular civilian who attends the parade and university to see the Mr. Amigo like anyone else but even then I have no hard feelings about this organization...

Let the refining and improving of your own life keep you so busy that you have little time to criticize others..good day!

I would be willing to bet Mr. Torres does not have the faintest idea who the first Mr. Amigo, Miguel Aleman was (a hint, he was a lot more than just the President of Mexico). But he certainly knows who some third-rate actor from Televisa is. This is the epitome of Brownsville, a once cultured and intelligent city and now a backwater of pendejos.

How about William Levy for next year. Oh, but his a Cuban, so what...

"It only makes us stronger."
Por favor! After the overspending reported by JM.

$1,236 for Others Expenses.
$3,016 for President Expenses
So who does it only make stronger?
Yessenia Patino(whoever you are) and Sylvia Perez you have disgraced Mr.Amigo.
Oh yeah,"Spending money to your benefit Only Makes You Stronger."

She and her husband went basurk on everybody in line... He told her is this the guy that your seeing??? I said excuse me but what she does on her free time is none of our buisness and she called me a bitch and he kept asking her Which guy is it... I later found out her name was Yesenia the Mr. Amigo President. FYI I took the picture anyway no thanks to you. Last time I'm going. She has no class and serious martial problems.
