Last Wednesday was a day that local organizers of the East Brownsville girl's Little League would rather forget.
It was the day of the All-Star tryouts and the players and their parents had been told in advance that if they didn't show up for tryouts then, they would not be considered for inclusion on the team. Ah, but the organizers and coaches weren't thinking that among some of the parents would be included a bull in a china shop in the person of former city commissioner and BISD coach Charlie Atkinson.Charlie has a daughter who plays ball and her prior commitments didn't allow her to make the tryouts. That is, until Dad got personally involved and causes a ruckus with the coaching staff.
Charlie showed up and insisted his daughter be allowed to play, and for good measure, he produced a video camera and threatened them that he would film them denying him his special treatment or he would send the tape to Waco, the league's headquarters.
We're sure that this little lesson in life will not be lost on the young Atkinson, or on the organizers of the team. It's called throwing tour weight around and getting things done your way because of who you are.
And they say baseball doesn''t teach you about life.

Are you kidding? Baseball Leagues, Soccer Leagues, Basketball Leagues, Pee-wee Football Leagues is where politics 101 is taught to our children and all those Adults new to the political arena. Totally Depressing............

Charlie is an asshole! He would oppose special consideration for his daughter's competitors, oh, but the Atkinson "princess" should get special privileges. Charlie remains a Grade A Asshole!!!!!
Are we talking about baseball or softball? or does Atkinson's Daughter play baseball? who cares if she plays or not, majority of the kids in Brownsville are to lazy to advance anywhere else.

Naturally, this guy now works for the school district. What is it about this town that they hire incompetents to be in public jobs and the grossly incompetent to be in charge?
These people ought to be on a no-fly list or something.
First of all, Charlie only got hired because his sister was in charge of Human Resources at the time.....nepotism? He is a joke and everyone in BISD shakes their head when they see him.
He is a worthless individual. How sad that he put his daughter through this.
SMH.... what does that say about our BISD teachers. Poor representation for our educators by people like this. So so sad. And yes, poor kid.
Please do not judge all of BISD teachers by the lack of couth that Charlie Atkinson possesses. Just like any large organization, there are some rotten apples....but there are lots of good teachers and coaches. Charlie Atkinson has always been protected by his sisters and has always been the family member everyone wishes would go away. Unfortunately for this family, the men in the group are all losers.
