The day after a nine-member committee decided against giving him a raise that would have put him on par with the Padre Island constable, Pct. 2 Constable Abelardo Gomez and his deputies arrested a man waiting for his wife and family court visiting judge Federico Hinojosa with a nine-millimeter handgun.
Constable Gomez said the man was angry that the judge had ruled in his ex-wife's favor in his divorce case and he had told her he was going to shoot her, the judge, and then himself when they came out of the courthouse.
"I know he has to come out of the courthouse and I'll wait for him there," Luis Manuel Lopez was overheard telling his wife.
Lopez is facing charges of making a terroristic threat and one count of reckless driving as a result of the incident.
Gomez said the man's wife told them that the man was waiting for the judge in a parking lot near the courthouse.

Im surprised Constable Gomez was at the COURT HOUSE to begin with. I have gone numerous times and he's never there during regular office hours. I guess it wasnt his turn to work the Walmart on Alton Gloor. Must be nice to be ask for a raise when you dont deserve it but then again WE THE PEOPLE VOTED FOR THIS MAN, or so they say....

Commendation for constable Abel Gomez. Thank you for a job well done. You know that in our books, you are very deserving of your proposed increase in salary. Nobody called me to be part of the committee. Keep up the good work and thanks again.
He was doing what he gets paid to do.....Soldiers in Afghanistan earn less that him and they face threats every day. Local officials like him should stop whining.
Geez some of these comments stink. You people would be all pissed off, and up in arms if Constable Gomez didn't catch this guy and the worst would have happened. Eveytime I go to the courthouse he is there doing the job, he was elected to do.
Side note, this committe which apparently was made up of grand jury members must be a bunch of morons I swear. Alot of their indictements lately have been failing in court. Like a great Lawyer once said The pinche grand jury in Cameron County will indicte a bad bowl of menudo.
Well since the committee didn't give Abelardo his raise, he is now intimidating his deputies into signing a petition to give up $500 of their much deserved $1000 raise to pay his ranking officers more. He says you don't have to sign it, but we all know what will happen if you don't. How is that fair to the deputy's family. The petition is very much real. It was presented to commissioners court today and was tabled for legal review. We ask know not a deputies signed voluntarily. Mr. Gomez don't be a Conrado Cantu. Withdraw the matrix proposal and lift the department's moral. Don't be a dictator.
I agree with you all exept Mr. Marco Longoria. Mr. Gomez knew exactly what the salary was for an elected official. Why didnt he voice his concerns about his salary before....oh yeah cuz they wouldnt of voted for him.......but then again we didnt........then how did he win?????? Those mail in ballots do make a HUGE DIFFERENCE.( Thats another can of worms) I guess the MAQUINITAS are taking a toll on Mr. Gomez which is why he's asking for a raise but what people arent aware of is the fact that Mr. Gomez AKA sneeky mother trucker ( you know what I mean) MADE his employees sign a document making them give up their $1000.00 dllr raise and give 50% of their raise to the chief deputy, lieutenants, and sergeants..... QUE TAL LOS POLLOS. As a current employee of Cameron County, Constable Gomez did not force his employees to sign a matrix, he didn't even ask. one of his employees is he one that asked me and I gladly signed it. Constable Gomez is fair and is always there for us when we need him. He always looks out for his department. We are getting much needed help at the courthouse and this was not done by Constable Gomez sitting around, he worked hard and always does. Me and my family will always vote for him to get him elected.

Works funeral escorts? Does he charge for those? If he does, then what does he do with that money? The basis for the question is that he and the other deputy constables are using county vehicles, county insurance for the vehicles and county fuel...Hope he and the deputies aren't keeping the money!
He does use county vehicles, fuel and resources to work at walmart, he even has a security job at SPI,TX and he uses the county vehicle and gas to go to and from for his personal gain. Commissioners please look into this.
Anybody read the story in the Brownsville Herald and VMS? This pendejo in Abel Gomez wants us to believe that his deputies WITH families to feed and bills to pay agreed to give up some of their pay so supervisors can get more? Yet, he wants authority to give WHO he wants pay raises? Abel Gomez, if you can't handle the number of employees you got, then you need to step down or the Commissioners Court need to create a supervisor position in the courthouse and have TECLOSE recognize it!

Can you please look into the Constable's use of county resources for his side/OFF DUTY work? What about the funeral escorts, Judge? Who is keeping the money from the escorts? Who's insurance is being used for these personal side jobs.....

Very good point! Funeral escorts use constable units, meaning insurance from the county. Who keeps the money and if put into budget, where? Side jobs, they are in uniform, county insurance again if they get injured or worse yet, a death occurs. Just like the JP's? Marriage ceremonies? Money goes into budget? Sometimes they are held in their office on county time? Money belongs to county!
The escorts are done for free! He does it for the people of cameron county.. I saw him working side job at Bardot and he did not have a unit there. Its like when the fat pd officers work whaterburgers, so stop hating. The only side bribe he gets at Bardot is all the eye candy from all the good looking girls that flash there stuff. Who can ask for more? For each man his own.

Ha, I've seen Abelardo and county dodge ram at walmart on alton gloor. His deputies too, they park their marked county vehicles towards the back on the side parking lot. Also I've seen that same dodge ram with Pct. 2 lettering heading towards Port Isabel on a Saturday. Isn't that out of his precinct. I've heard he does security at S.P.I at some condo. Maybe gas is too expensive for a constable's salary. But hey when you're the boss, who's gonna tell you anything! Commissioners, step up to the plate and inquire.
I'm sorry, I thought Brownsville PD took the guy down. Didn't the woman call them for help? Kuddos to her! What I want to know is if he secures the courthouse SO well, then why weren't the employees who were in the building made aware of this potential shooter? You know, "STAY IN YOUR OFFICES, THERE IS A LOCO OUT HERE!!" From what I hear employees didn't even know of the threat until they saw it on the 10 PM news. What is that?
Funeral escorts are done for free. Not only are Rey a courtesy to the taxpayers of CC, but they are provided for the safety of our community (crazy drivers) and out of respect for the deceased and their loved ones do that they remain in procession to their services. Thank you ignorant people! Not EVERYTHING is for monetary gain. Have faith in humanity.
I have never felt safe when entering that building, more than once I have asked the constables for help. I usually get blown off like its nothing. I'm sorry, didn't you all enter the field to protect and serve, OH and enforce the laws? There are a good few of you men and one of the ladies there that are very dependable, I thank you all. Yes, the ones thr run from the third floor to the first floor to control a situation that the guys on the first floor couldn't. Thank YOU for your service!
just wondering how much money goes into everyones pockets doing all this extra work by the constables, jp for weddings, etc etc etc and then they are using all the county facilities, vehicles, gas, insurance, these folks have a concern judge and county commissioners are you all listening o lez vale puro wiennie? i beleive lez vale period. bm

You are correct; they don't "charge"......The constables are involved in a friendly racket with funeral homes....You see, they can't charge but they take "donations". The funeral home personnel colllects a certain "donation" which is equivalent to the cost of the escort. That donation is then paid/given to the constable.....Simple!
