WITH THE HIGH GRASS GONE, LOOK AT ALL THE FREE GREEN SPACE

By Juan Montoya
It took the state a while, but they finally got around to directing their contractors to mow the bottom of the underpasses in the heart of the city. For months now the grass had been choking the area. You can see how high it had gotten by looking at the right side of the picture where the sidewalks are choked with Johnson grass to the point where one can't even see them.
Many local residents wonder why the city – as other cities across the state and country do – utilize the empty areas to construct secure parking where shuttles can then shunt the people back and forth across town in scheduled bus service (or jitneys). There could even be green space available for neighborhood basketball courts or green park areas.
There are easily a few acres of free space under the system of overpasses in the immediate downtown area that could alleviate some of the urban blight which is choking local neighborhoods. Cutting the grass and ridding the area of mosquito breeding grounds is a good first step. What say you mayor and commissioners?

Yeah, look at all the free green space. Bet Martinez tries giving that away, too.

I would be paranoid that some dumbass on the overpass would throw a beer bottle over the side of the bridge at 70mph. that could do some damage.

Martinez is way too busy buying over priced real estate from his friends with city money to be bother by such niceties as urban renewal. What the hell, do you think you are in Austin?
