ESCOBEDO OPTS FOR DISTRICT CLERK, BLOODLETTING AHEAD

By Juan Montoya
After weeks of tantalizing political pundits, Brownsville Independent School District president Enrique Escobedo finally announced that he will seek the Cameron County District Clerk's position being left vacant with the departure of Aurrora de la Garza who announced she will no longer run.
Escobedo had left supporters guessing whether he would seek the Precinct 2 commissioner's position he sought in 2010, the county treasurer's post held by David Betancourt, or even the county clerk's spot held by Joe Rivera.
Betancourt had jokingly said speaking before the announcement that he was hesitant about attending Escobedo's announcement be cause it would be awkward to find out the BISD president had chosen to run against him.
For his part, Cascos probably thought that if Escobedo announced for treasurer, he had probably cut a deal with Betancourt, who would then announce for county judge against him.
But at least one elected official who might have been wary of attending apparently had gotten the word that Escobedo was not going after his eat. Pct. commissioner Hernandez attended the event which was MCd by City of Brownsville commissioner Ricardo Longoria. Longoria has also been rumored to want to throw his hat in the ring for JP 2-3, the new justice of the peace spot created in the county.
Hernandez is being challenged to the Pct. 2 post by local attorneys Alex Dominguez and Gary Linan. Linan has run before for the position but was knocked out of the race by attorney Ruben Peña and Hernandez who got into a runoff. Antoehr candidate for the Pct. 2 position that year was none other than Escobedo.
Also in attendance was Cascos, who also attended a meet-and-greet of Rosie Sheldon-Sotelo, one of Escobedo's opponents. Sotelo whose campaign slogan rests on the 28 years of experience in that office highlighted by her stint as the civil case manager, is joined by Eric Garza, the criminal division file manager at the district clerk's office. Sheldon-Sotelo's son-in-law is Cris Valadez, Cascos' administrative assistant. Garza, however, is being backed by County Clerk Joe Rivera, whose influence goes abck several decades and is spread throughout the county.
The other candidate for district clerk is Neida Ruth Soto-Grantland whose base of support rests on the many years she spent as a BISD administrator. She lists her 32 years with the BISD where she started as a teacher's aide and climbed up the ladder to teacher, principal, and the director of personnel. Along
the way, we're sure, she did her share of favors.
This race, observers say, will be a bloodletting of the highest order, with the BISD vote split between Escobedo and Soto-Grantland and the county vote split between Garza and Sheldon-Sotelo and the rest of us picking sides to see who remains standing for the inevitable runoff.

Escobedo has proven incompetent as a BISD Trustee, so what does he bring to the District Clerk race....just more incompetence and corruption. Escobedo is a DICK! Electing Escobedo would be like re-electing Aurora....no improvement....no gain for the public.

Come on, Montoya. Have a little faith in the average Jose and Josefina. You assume that a county employee will automatically vote for a county worker. You assume a BISD worker will automatically vote for a BISD-connected candidate. Bullshit! Everybody is sick and tired of the corrupt and we all know Sotelo, Garza and Escobedo are dirty. Quit trying to mix the one clean candidate in with the rest of this pile of crap roster.

What happened to Cantinflas, I thought he was running for clerk? No, se me habia olvidado que el cabron murio en 93, pero si puede votar.

Ademas, algo huele mal en Tapachula. No veo ningun gabacho el la pelea. Una bola de racistas.

Art Macdonald is the son-in-law of Neida Ruth Soto Grantland, and best friend of Judge Arturo Nelson's wife. She is counting on the judges for victory. I think the judges might be a minus for her, with all the Limas testimony they were a part of.

montoya, I am disappointed in you. Not one time did you refer to Dr. Escobedo as Dr. That young dick attended medical school in Mexico, and even though he DID NOT finish, he still thinks of himself as a DOCTOR. And I agree with him-he is a "doctor of crap", and I don't mean a Proctologist.

Eric Garza! That's where my vote is going. He is the right person for the job plain and simple. If you really knew him, you would agree.

How did Aurora de la Garza assign those cases to Limas' court without Eric Garza or Rosie Sotelo knowing about it? She didn't. They all knew what was going on!

Eric Garza is the most qualified he has worked with the district clerk for many years , he has the experience , he is very dedicated.. he is intelligent and is well liked by his piers.. my family will be voting for this young man .. god bless you Eric keep up the hard work..

Eric Garza is the one who is the most competent and capable of bringing back the integrity to the District Clerk's Office!!!

I am voting for the gay guy.

Glad to see Eric decided to run. Out with the old and in with the new. We're tired of the usual career politicians and their compadres getting elected and re-elected. I don't trust anyone who runs for every possible office out there like Escobedo has done. Was he ever sincere enough about making a difference in any one of those offices or was he just looking to see where he can make a quick buck? That guy would run to be the next Ronald McDonald if McDonald's had an election.

Eric is the most qualified to continue with the same shenanigans as we have had with Aurora. Eric learn from the best, no inegrity.

I believe Cameron County has had enough of women leadership. Look at the chaos with three women at BISD. Look at the ineffectiveness at the city with four women. Now there are two women wanting to get elected for the position of district clerk, i think we all agree that enough is enough. we need to get menopause out of leadership positions. Vote for Enrique Escobedo, a proven level headed leader.

Neida Ruth is the perfect candidate, she's a retired educator, she will not do what Aurora did, she doesn't need any paid favors like Escobedo, Sotelo or Garza. She's the most honest person of all the candidates.

Escobedo is pathetic, he already milked the district now he wants to milk the county. This guy doesn't have an once if integrity or honesty. He falsified his title, I can imagine what he will do with the court cases. Warning, warning! Keep him out of BISD as well!!!

All kidding aside, please let's not vote for this Escobedo, who still wishes he be adressed as DR. What a phony and pathetic low life. He is unworthy of any vote since his agenda has always been to get rich at our expense, just think of the fiasco at the BISD circus, the appointments he has made since he became president.,the security contracts for his brother's company, the Rendon's pay to play and so on and so on. What a RAT! Don't VOTE FOR ARREDONDO.
