READY FOR THE MUSICAL CHAIRS THIS DEMO PRIMARY?

By Juan Montoya
Ask him point blank and Cameron County Clerk Joe Rivera will tell you he has no interest whatever in running for county judge.
"I want to be one of the county clerks who has been in this office for the longest time," he said sitting in his office surrounded by memorabilia from 36 years in that office. "The longest one was 40 years. I have 36 and need another four to reach 40."
Yet, for all that, the county rumor mill indicates a very different picture. The rrunrrun says that Rivera will shift his sights and become a contender for the Democratic Party nomination for county judge, that former Demo chair Sylvia Perez-Garza has agreed to move over and announce for Rivera's empty seat which is being contested by perennial candidate Don De Leon who at one time has run for U.S. representative and the Port of Brownsville.
What would be the consequences of Rivera's move, if he is indeed running for county judge?
The rumor mill says that Garza-Perez and Rivera have reached an agreement that she will also run for county clerk against De Leon. But just when you think the musical chairs have stopped, there enters into the picture the omnipresent current county treasurer David Betancourt. The rumors have it that if Rivera moves over to the judge's position, David will go after the county clerk spot. This will make it very difficult for both De Leon and Garza Perez to get the nod from voters in the March primary.
And once Betancourt makes his move to the county clerk, what then?
Well, the story goes something like this.
Brownsville Independent School District trustee (and board president) Enrique Escbedo, who announced for the district clerk spot being vacated by Aurora De la Garza, who leaves office under a cloud of disrepute after the racketeering trials of Abel Limas, Jim Solis, and Marc Rosenthal. All the cash cases that garnered millions for these men and thier clients passed through her office. And who can forget the favorable treatment she got for her son Joey from Villalobos and Limas after he was charged (and convicted) of stealing more than $100,000 from Sunshine Haven Hospice where he was a fundraiser organizer?
It is a mystery to everyone how she managed to elude an indictment or even a criminal charge. Perhaps the cost of her involvement was her agreed banishment fro local politics. Who knows?
If this scenario happens, Escobedo will face off against three declared candidates: Rosie Sheldon Sotelo, Eric Garza, and Neido Soto-Grantland. Sotelo retired from the district clerk's office as civil case manager and Eric Garza is the current criminal case manager. Soto-Grantland counts among her achievements a lifetime of service at the BISD rising from a teacher's aide to the director of Human Resources.
Is your head spinning yet?
If Rivera moves over to county judge, he will square off against Port of Brownsville trustee (and BISD records manager) Martin Arambula, attorney Ruben Peña and anyone else who jumps in at the last minute.
There are rumors about many others declaring before the Dec. 9 filing deadline. But Joe's moving over to county judge (if he does) would surely rock the Democratic boat.

Joe Rivera is too dumb to find his own ass with a flashlight. Same goes for David Betancourt. Sylvia Garza Perez is as corrupt as the Hernandezes and so is Enrique Escobedo. This county is sick of all the same disgusting people acting as if they are entitled to these public offices. You wait and see.

Joe already announced to his staff his intentions to run for county judge, but wants to keep it quiet to pave the way for sylvia garza perez to file unopposed for county clerk. this is typical democrat politics. Sylvia has proven to be unreliable & untrustworthy, just like Rivera. She leaves her demo post half way thru, she commits to run for CJ, she basically gets bought off by the Hinojosa/Rivera team. Joe is now working on Arambula to step down offering to reimburse him for all his expenses, plus an extra $5000 for his troubles. If Arambula backs down, which he will, another deal cut. And Rivera is the man that would be Judge? Puro pedo. Mamones, todos.

There are too many Dinosaurs in this county that refuse to leave office. Our County Judge? 36 years in office, definitely needs to retire and forget about running for County Judge. He does not even have a College Degree, 36 years in office and couldn't get a degree, that is so SAD.
What about our Sheriff? Great Law Enforcement Man back in his days, he is a great person but needs to give the opportunity to the younger ones. We need a strong Sheriff, a guy who can still chase the bad guys. We need a sheriff who believes in Physical Fitness. And there are more Dinosaurs in this county.
