Those of us who happened to be by the main U.S. Post Office on Los Ebanos at about 2 p.m. today got to see a drama unfold involving two vehicles from the Cameron County Elections Department.
Apparently, one of the vehicles – the truck being pushed by the other in front of the building – faltered and its newer mate had to come and push it out of the parking lot.
They traveled the length of the parking lot and then across the street to the gas station where they were last seen filling tit up with gas and trying to prime it with a gallito to get it going.
It's always embarrassing to see public vehicles breaking down in mid-traffic and having to see them pushed to get them out of the way. There can only be three plausible explanations for these scenes:
1) There is not enough preventive maintenance being performed on these vehicles or the gas gauge does not work
2) Operators did not check the fuel level before taking the truck out for the mail run
3) Chris Davis needs to ask the county commissioners for new vehicles otherwise he'll have half his staff out trying to get them going.

Either way people will complain....either they drive pieces of junk or they spend too much money on vehicles.....

This is a petty issue. Perhaps it is a management issue for Chris Davis; but it is a management issue for many organizations and families in this community. We don't get the pictures of the government vehicles at restaurants, banks, shops that aren't broken down, but not doing county business. Also, ever notice how slow county vehicles move at the beginning of the day and how fast them move at the end of the day. A problem for all county offices....not just Chris Davis

I saw them delivering our voter registration cards at post office, and to the looks of it ,that truck is not very reliable.... I've seen helpers to certain department heads having the privilege of driving new county vehicles and even take them home for personal use & a department we REALLY benefit from (we all do) has to be driving a around in a vehicle that is all old and non reliable....
Checking the gas meter is in a city vehicle is not rockett scince. Lazy County ass people. If you drive a county or city owned vehicle. You check the unit.

ok pull it over, wtf, dont you folks ever do a little preventive maintenance on this vehicles? just because you dont drive them everyday doesnt mean you shouldnt, couldnt or wouldnt? Mr. Chris, this looks a like a circus is coming to town, makes your dept look like chit. do you have any common sense, oh i forgot, they dont teach that at the college. chango
