AT CAMERON PARK, ERNIE, SYLVIA GET BACKBITTEN

By Juan Montoya
We have now confirmed from at least three sources who attended a meeting requested by Cameron County Pct. 2 incumbent commissioner Ernie Hernandez and county clerk candidate Sylvia Garza-Perez that both candidates 0 especially Hernandez – received a dressing down for their lack of service to that colonia.
Cameron Park is the largest colonia in Cameron County and former county judge Gilbert Hinojosa used to say tat it was larger than some towns such as Olmito.
Well, the natives are not happy with the commissioner and they let him have an earful,
Hernandez was introduced to the community group by Garza-Perez and he son heard enough about the autocratic way that the director of El Centro Cultural Cameron Park was running the show in effect elimintaed any community input. In fact, director Martha Kramer, said to be related to county judge Carlos Cascos.
However, that was not the end of it. He promised that he would bring lighting to the colonia and  that he would personally see to it that the center was open to community events again.
In fact, Ernie promised more than that when residents complained of Cascos' indifference to the center director's actions. He said he had the gonads to take on Cascos and open the center to the public.
"Yo tengo los guevos," he told them.
But of course he does. After all, in the Thanksgiving and Christmas before the 2012 primary election when his daughter Erin Hernandez Garcia was campaigning for justice of the peace, he staged to "giveaways" of turkey dinners and presents for the kiddos of the colonia with Erin wearing and her campaign minions wearing their "Vote for Erin" T-shirts. Erin even handed out presents and helped serve the plates. Since then, Cameron Park has seen very little of either one of them.
"How long have you held the office of commissioner?" one participant asked Hernandez.
"About three years," stammered Ernie.
"And in all that time you haven' been here to ask what the colonia needed?" they pressed.
There were other other services that colonia residents demanded Hernandez do something about. They say that packs of dogs roam the dark streets and that some residents keep more than half a dozen of the beasts in unsecured yards.
"If they get out of the yards they could kill someone passing by in the street," one said. Where were the animal control crews, they asked Hernandez.
A colonia resident said that the last time a commissioner promised to bring street lights was when John Wood was in office and that he not only did not bring in the lights for the streets but that he could not figure out a way to divide the costs among the residents there.
Colonia President Gloria Moreno said that Hernandez had done nothing about making the center accessible to residents again and that the people wanted Kramer out as a start.
"You can start with that," she told Hernandez.
"I think that they wished they had never come to talk to us," she recalled today. "Why after three years in office did he choose to come ask us what we need when we have just over a week before early voting begins?"

I live in Pct 2 and have seen no evidence of any progress since Ernie Hernandez has been in office....except the signs he put up (at taxpayer expense) to let citizens know that he has a giant ego. We had better service from Conrado Cantu as a Constable...at least he got the trash off the streets. There is no evidence to many of us....like in Cameron Park...that Ernie has been around. He has been to busy drawing a paycheck and trying to free himself of IRS investigations, and not county indictments. He has given no time to the citizens...but he has taken the pay. Ernie is worthless.

Well Ernie, it seems that you're plan to buy votes by sucking up to Cameron Park citizens backfired. Now, that you know that the DA is going to be watching for voter fraud, that took votes that you were counting on, huh? Cameron Park citizens showed you that they are not ignorant voters. They're exercising their right to question their elected officials. Be careful Abel Gomez, you're next!

Actually, the previous commissioner, John Wood, did see to it that there were street lights instlled and turned on in Cameron Park. State Rep. Rene Oliviera and Commissioner Wood got AEP to pay for the infrastructure (poles and wires) and worked with neighborhood leaders to get easements (access) signed off so the street lights could be installed. But AEP only contributed for the area,a little over half of Cameron Park, that they service. Then commissioner Wood worked with the leadership at Proyecto Juan Diego and got Magic Valley Electric Co-op to discount their cost of putting in the infrastructure in the portion of Cameron Park that they serve. In this case, the folks at Proyecto Juan Diego arranged for the easements, and Proyecto Juan Diego paid the cost that Magic Valley Co-op charged (over $15,000.00) for the infrastructure they put in. In all of Cameron Park, the property owners are charged for the electrical use of the street lights through their property tax statements and the money is then collected by the Tax Assesor Collector which turns the money over to re-imburse the County for what it has paid to the two electric companies on a monthly basis in order that the street lights stay on. If the lights are off, Ernie needs to answer the question of WHY?

How do you discern a colonia in a town that is itself a colonia?

Yesterday (Monday) I visited a friend of mine that lives in Cameron Park since 1980. Back in those days, my friend's parents had to buy caliche (from their own money) to be able to get out of their street during rain season. After 6 pm there were no lighted streets, not even mention stop signs. I dont know which administration or which comissioner did all the changes but today they have paved streets, a drainage system, stop signs. Their streets are in much better condition that the majority of the Brownsville streets. Gloria Moreno has been their colonia "president" since the 1980's. Back then they were very involved with the Valley Interfaith organization. I do agree with Ms. Moreno in one thing, candidates visit low income areas when they feel they need the votes.

WHO IS GLORIA MORENO AND WHO VOTED TO ELECTED HER PRESIDENT OF THE COLONIA. SHE DOES NOT LIVE IN THE COLONIA. SHE HAS PROPERTY SHE RENTS OUT AND MONEY COLLECTED THOUGHT IS RREPORT TO IRS. WE HAVE A NEED TO UNMASK PEOPLE LIKE HER WHO ARE SCAMMING ELECTED OFFICIAL UNDER THE FALSE PRETENCE THEY CONTROL VOTES. WHAT LITTLE IS KNOWN ABOUT HER IS SHE CLAIMS TO BE SOMETHING SHE IS NOT. THE ONLY PEOPLE THAT FOLLOW HER ARE THE LOW INCOME WITH NO LEGAL RIGHT TO VOTE IN THIS COUNTRY. IN MEXICO PRESIDENTS OF COLONIAS ARE THE PERSONS IN CHARGE OF TELLING PEOPLE WHO TO VOTE FOR AND HERD THEM TO THE POLLS. HOPE THIS INFORMATION GETS POSTED JUST TO BE FAIR. ALERT A POLITIQUERA.
