BREWER ENDORSED BY CAMERON COUNTY LAWMEN, BYPASS INCUMBENT PCT. 4 COMMISSIONER DAN SANCHEZ

By Juan Montoya
Fir the first time in recent history, a county association of sheriff's deputies has endorsed a non-incumbent Cameron County Pct. 4 commissioner.
The Cameron County Sheriff Deputies Association – with more than 300 members – voted to endorse former La Feria  mayor Steve Brewer.
"That is unheard of," said former county commissioner Edna Tamayo. "The incumbent usually gets the endorsement. But I understand that the executive board called Steve out of the blue to tell him of their endorsement. They said they wanted to get better representation."
Besides Brewer, Roberto Juan Kornegay Esquivel and incumbent Dan Sanchez, a practicing attorney.
During his announcement for commissioner at the Harlingen Art Forum along with about 75 of his supporters, Brewer called attention to his strengths as a proactive mayor and pointed to improvement projects he accomplished while holding office for the last six years.
Those projects included obtaining funding for and building a new youth recreation center, an extensive remodeling and expansion of the city library and construction of Safe Routes to Schools Sidewalks.
He also pointed to the completion of Sun Flower Estates, a non-profit housing facility for deserving families.
Other projects included a new 70-unit single-family subdivision and construction of two large domes to be used for classrooms for technical training and disaster shelters. Brewer said the $22 million drainage project is under way and he expects it to be completed in 2015.
In all, Brewer said he had accomplished $80 million in projects and raised $70 million in grants, all that without increasing taxes.
He has also been president of the Lower Rio Grande Development Council and board member for the Cameron County Disaster Fund and served on the La Feria Industrial Development Corporation, and was the co-chairman of the La Feria Wastewater Plant Steering Committee. Currently he is the Community Development Block Grant chairman, a RGV state appointment
“I have always believed in getting good things done for good people and I look forward to using my leadership skills to be part of the Cameron County team as Cameron County Commissioner for Precinct 4.”
Tamayo and other residents say the needs of the precinct have been ignored by Sanchez who has been too busy running for higher office and trying to court support for a run at county judge. They say that as a result of this political posturing Sanchez has allowed the infrastructure of rural areas to deteriorate.
Kornegay-Esquivel  has been vocal  about Sanchez's lack of action in El Ranchito, where residents have complained that he has neglected a road that leads to a cemetery. Commissioners in the past have serviced the road, but in a television interview, Sanchez apparently was ignorant of the fact and said he could not help them.
Residents are now planning to circulate a petition to address the condition of the road.
Early voting begins tomorrow and will extend to February 28.

And why isn't Brewer running as a Republican? At his announcement function, the Republican County Judge, carlos cascos, was there to endorse him along with the Republican in Democratic clothes, edna tamayo. edna supported Sanchez's opponent 4 years ago, so I can see why she supports the Republican, Steve Brewer.

Dan Sanchez is arrogant and self-serving; he looks out for his own personal "needs" and cares little for the public. Dan Sanchez does not deserve the support of public organizations which he has ignored for four years. He supported raises for Joe Rivera and Aurora de la Garza to get their political support, but he ignored the rest of his district and the county. Dan Sanchez doesn't deserve the public's support for re-election.

So Anon of February 17, 2014 at 3:08 PM, let me see if I understand you, Mr. Steve Brewer has proven himself to be a REAL PUBLIC SERVANT-
with projects that "...included obtaining funding for and building a new youth recreation center, an extensive remodeling and expansion of the city library and construction of Safe Routes to Schools Sidewalks.
In all, Brewer said he had accomplished $80 million in projects and raised $70 million in grants, all that without increasing taxes..."
And Dan Sanchez can only point to accomplishing GAINING MORE WEIGHT (ON TAX DOLLARS), DOING NOTHING FOR THE COMMUNITY HE REPRESENTS, IS A BETTER CHOICE????????????
You must be one of those LOW INFORMATION IDIOT DUMBOCRAT.

He won't get my vote...this time I'm voting for new blood!!! Some one who has nothing to do with the corruption in Cameron County or had been named in the Limas, Solis, Villalobos and others corruption investigation leading to indictments and convictions.

This time I'm voting for new blood Mr. Brewer...let's see what he can do to clean this mess up that left by Sanchez?

What's the big deal? So, the CCSO Association has supported Brewer? They just patrol the precinct? Obviously, the CCSO Association hasn't done their homework? Brewer is supported by the Establishment of Harlingen, which consists of the rich white people and their coconut cronies. Brewer will have to pay back to them for their votes, just watch if he wins? There is an agenda for that Establishment group to support him? Why haven't they supported that Kornegay guy? Because he is Hispanic and got a white name, that's why! The same Establishment that tried to get a Kornegay an aircraft hangar at Valley International Airport but failed because the FAA told them they couldn't. You want Brewer, you will get the Establishment delegating him like they do with with city officials and city commissioners in Harlingen! As around!

You can now vote for blue blood or brown blood!

Obviously you then to judge people by the COLOR OF THEIR SKIN NOT THE CONTENT OF THEIR CHARACTER, which means YOU'RE A RACIST.
And I can only guess you're more comfortable with a POOR THIRD WORLD ECONOMY THE LOCAL DUMBOCRATS ARE WORKING SO HARD TO create vs a vibrant economy where everybody can benefit and EARN THEIR OWN KEEP.

I would rather vote for new blood that has to prove himself in office...than to vote for bad blood that had the chance to prove himself...what choice do we have at this point. This is not a matter of who is mexican or angol...but to try to rid the bad with some good. I don't know Brewer but he can't be as bad as Dan...who been named in a corruption investigation. It doesn's take a brain surgeant to figure this one out!!!!
