10-DAY EARLY VOTING BEGINS TODAY UNTIL FEBRUARY 28

By Juan Montoya
Both sides of Central Boulevard near the entrance to the Central Public were teeming with political supporters of the various candidates running in today's Democratic Party primaries under the watchful eyes of the Brownsville Police Department.
Early voting begins today and extends through February 28. Depending on where they live in the county, voters will be  voting for in state elections for Democratic nominees to congressional seats, state positions, two county commissioners, district clerk, county clerk, county court-at-law judges, district judges, county judge, justices of the peace, constables as well as voting in party referendum questions.
The candidate who gets 50 percent of the vote plus one will face whatever Republican contender that may have emerged for the Republican Party in November. If no one candidate gets the 50 percent plus one, there must be a runoff election, usually about a month after the primary election.
Cast you vote and earn a right to complain about the candidates later.

In the 1980's there was a commercial on the radio in English and in Spanish: "If you dont vote DONT Complain". "Si usted No Vota, NO SE QUEJE". Ever since then I always make it a point to vote so I can have the right to complain. Like right now, I want to complain that these people that are running (No matter what party), you dont see them going to the schools, to the low income areas, but ah, come election time, they call my home at time when I DONT LIKE TO BE BOTHERED, they make it sound like they are the last hope for the residents of this town. I hate to tell them (but I usually do over the phone), I can make up my own mind, if you call me from a private or an unknown number it is because you dont want the people you are calling to know your number, I know who you are because you make it a point to place visual trash all around the city, and once again I CAN MAKE UP MY OWN MIND without you telling me to do so.
