In the finest tradition of fellow troupers, several grupos of musicians are banding together to host a dance Sunday night to raise funds to liberate a fellow musician being held captive in Victoria, Tamps.
Circumspect in the details of the captivity of fellow musicians Martin Villenueva, the groups never say that he is incarcerated by the authorities, but rather that he has been "privado de su libertad" and needs their help.
Toward that and they have held several benefits and are holding a major one tonight at Los Dos Hermanos Rodeo Nightclub on 4685 Coffee Port Road.

No one is saying that Villanueva is being held captive by any specific group of authority, but the couched language of the border gives one a good clue that it is not law enforcement which is behind his captivity.
"Unfortunately," says his family, "such is life...and we invite you this Sunday to cooperate to this noble cause because our good friend from Grupo Genesis 2000 finds himself deprived of his freedom in Cd. Victoria, Tamps.
"Cooperate with $5, $10, $15 or $20 so that our brother Martin can overcome this problem. Martin is well liked by everyone and we cannot leave him unaided with this problem," they say.
And so the tentacles of spillover violence that everyone is talking about in a generalized and nebulous way has reached out across the river and touched the musical community. If you can contribute in some way to Martin's liberation, drop by with a contribution and maybe even stay and dance a few numbers with Los Amos.

A sign of the times, having a benefit to raise money to pay ransom. The lesson here is...stay out of that shit hole Mexico!
