Well, it seems that things are coming to a head over at Thursday morning's Cameron County Commissioners Court meeting.
In an executive session item, the commissioners will be asked to confer with local counsel over the legal issues in connection with complaint that the county Public Works Department has used and modified land owned by another without that owner's consent.
The item on the agenda relate to a 10-acre spread out in Laureles (north of Los Fresnos) where the county has a park, the Laureles Community Park.
Scott Campbell, the owner of the land found out recently that the county crews had turned his land into a landfill.
And God only knows how long this had been going on.
In fact, the Cameron County crews have even go so far as to fence off the property to keep park goers away from the trash and debris.
No one is saying how it was that county crews mistook Campbell's land for a potential landfill or if they cleared the dumping of construction debris, refuse and other trash there with any of their superiors or even the Cameron County administration.
On election day, Asst. Administrator David Garcia said neither he nor Administrator Pete Sepulveda had been made aware of the clandestine landfill until the property owner complained and the issue has now gone legal.
With the commissioner's court now in litigation, it will be left in the hands of the attorneys to see what the hit on the county's budget will be.
We now understand that an emergency meeting had been held by county administrators and legal staff to determine what course of action to take to mitigate the Public Works actions on the private land.
Laureles is an unincorporated community which has long been identified as a high priority area for a potential park site. The park is located in commissioner David Garza's Precinct 3, but apparently even he didn't know or authorize the illegal dumping by his crews.
Now we understand that Sepulveda is saying that he entrusted his assistant administrator Garcia to oversee the Public Works crews and had nothing to do with it being used as a landfill by the county.
When the issue is discussed in executive session Thursday, expect the commissioners to get to the bottom of the matter and demand accountability from these high-paid administrators.

I agree with county watch dog. Obviously, he/she is either a present or ex county employee. Nothing is going to get done These little mistakes cause the tax payers big money but the voters don't care because they believe the legacy Joe Rivera will make changes. "Boy" do they have something coming. Joe is the "system" the old time politician, the Ray Ramon era. Those voters born before 1973 don't know. Joe is the type of politician " what's in it for me" . He will lie to you to your face and give you a smirk to go with it. He's a slave driver forcing his employees to sell campaign tickets and attend all his political functions. He endorses Sylvia Perez Garza in hopes that she will replace him and not conduct an audit of his office operations that he has held for 36 years. Its more than likely Joe will get elected as the Democratic County Judge in May but hopefully not by the intelligent voters.
