LOS FRESNOS TALENTED YOUNGSTERS CONTINUES TO DAZZLE

By Juan Montoya
Now the folks in Corpus Christi and around Texas know what we locals have known for a long time: when it comes to talent in the folk arts, our kids from South Texas are stiff competitors.
The couple above is no exception.
She is Sandra Antilano and he is Edgar Valero.
They were in competition in Mexican dance in the statewide Folklore Competition held in Corpus Christi this April 26-27. Their performance earned the Los Fresnos teens a solid second place.
The event was held by Alcorta’s Folklórico Diamante, the City of Corpus Christi .
This was the Second Annual Competencia Folklórica De Tejas presented by La Asociación Nacional de Grupos Folklóricos (ANGF) at the Del Mar Richardson Performance Hall in Corpus Christi, Texas.
The sponsors say the Competencia Folklórica De Tejas srves as an educational environment that both competitors and non-competitors can enjoy as it continues to promote the beautiful folklore of Mexico.
Master teachers and investigators of la danza folklórica mexicana were invited to serve as the judging panel and also provided breakout sessions for dancers, choreographers and directors.
The Competencia was open to all middle school, high school, college, university and private studio students.
Congrats to the Los Fresnos teens Sandra Antilano and Edgar Valero.
