Relatives of a prominent Matamoros business and owner of large tracts of the golf resort town of Rancho Viejo with alleged ties to former Tamaulipas state Gov. Tomas Yarringon Rubalcava are denying he is under house arrest in Mexico City.
The relatives, who wish to remain anonymous, said that Sergio Ramon Arguelles Gutierrez had remained in Mexico City due to a bout with pneumonia but was scheduled to return to Matamoros in the next few days.
They denied reports that he had been placed under home arrest in Mexico City after his arrest at the airport upon his return there from a trip to Europe.
Rumors abounded about the whereabouts of the elder Arguelles including one that he had been seen at a public function in Matamoros Wednesday night.
Arguelles, the founder of the FINSA industrial park in Matamoros, was named by Mexican prosecutors as a "prestanombre" for indicted former Tamaulipas Governor Tomas Yarrington Ruvalcaba, who remains a fugitive and is under incdictment in teh United States.The involvement of the older Arguelles with Yarrington had been the source of speculation for years. That speculation was confirmed last year when Mexico's Procuraduria General de la Republica (OGR) released a list of "prestanombres" who allegedly helped Yarringotn conceal his ill-gotten gains from the theft of state funds and payoffs from drug cartels.
In January 2012, the PGR released a list of names they say were complicit in the scheme. The names were published in the newspaper El Norte and are listed below.

The relatives said that Arguelles had planned to stay in Mexico City until his full recovery from pneumonia but that due to the rumors of his house arrest, he would be cutting his visit there short.
"He wants people to see that he is not under arrest," they told an El Rrun-Rrun source.
