WHAT WILL JOE RIVERA DO WITH TWO COUNTY EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT COORDINATORS? EENY, MEENY, MINY, MOE

By Juan Montoya
Apparently there's no lack of talent when it comes to emergency management coordination in Cameron County.
Remember Tom Hushen, the former EMC for Cameron County?
After he was replaced by current EMC Humberto Barrera, Hushen moved on to greener pastures with Tr-County Communications in Weslaco.
Just last week he left Tri-County to South Taxas Communications, the outfit that currently holds the emergency communications contract with Cameron County, his former employer.
Well, word has gotten around that Hushen is telling whoever will listen that he doesn't intend to make his stay at South Texas Communications to go beyond 2014 since he is sure that Cameron County Clerk Joe Rivera, who is facing incumbent Carlos Cascos for county judge in teh November general elections, will win.
Upon his victory, he tells his rapt audience, Rivera will give him his job back and ditch Barrera.
Now, politics being politics in South Texas, that is probably not so far fetched as one might think.
But there has been another pretender to the county's EMC throne making the rounds as well.
That would be Johnyy Cavazos, former Los Fresnos Police Chief and also a former Cameron County EMC in the past.
He has also been heard saying the EMC plum awaits him when Rivera takes power.
Cavazos is special. During this past primary election and runoff, he was seen holding campaign signs of county clerk candidate Sylvia Garza-Perez, the eventual winner over Arnold Flores.
While this is not unusual, he is also a strong supporter of the Citizens Against Voter Abuse who have been strong opponents of the use of politiqueras and the abuse of mail-in votes, especially among the elderly and English-challenged Hispanic seniors.
Garza-Perez, however, has defended the use of politiqueras and in fact comes from very politically-active stock. Her late mother Juanita, for example, was a politiquera par excellence who even Herminia Becerra credits with teaching her everything that she knows about politics in the barrio.
How Cavazos can justify on one hand openly campaigning for politiquera-chummy Garza-Perez and on the other embrace the anti-politiquera campaign with CAVA puts tightrope wire artists to shame.
Now, as the November elections draws near and both these men think they have a lock on the same job, who will Rivera pick? After all, the EMC slot comes under the office of the county judge? Did someone's wires get crossed?
What we have here, said the warden, is a failure to, ahem, communicate.

I surely don't remember John Hushen, but Humberto Barrera has done a credible job and seems to be casual and comfortable with the public. Since I don't remember Cavasos looks like "Lito" Lopez's look-a-like..."puffin hot dough boy".
As for Joe Rivera, he thinks there are Texas counties south of Cameron County and probably doesn't remember Hushen unless Gilberto Hinojosa tells him to remember Hushen.

Gilberto Hinojosa will tell Joe Rivera what to say, when to say it, and who to hire and who not to hire....if Joe gets is elected. Joe Rivera will have no independent decisions to make, he will be a "mule" for Hinojosa. Gilberto Hinojosa is a big part of Democratic Party corruption in Cameron County and he looks bad in his current party position since Cascos is a Republican. This election is all about Hinojosa's pride and has little to do with Joe Rivera...except Rivera agreed to carry the water for Hinojosa. Joe isn't smart enough to be a player....can only carry the water.

Simple: appoint his Cronies just like Charles Cascos.

Joe Rivera will say whatever Gilberto Hinojosa wants him to say. Joe will go with the Dumbocratic corruption flow and do whatever he is directed to do by Hinojosa. Joe has always been carried by the Dumbokratic current in Cameron County and has never had to think.

Joe Rivera won't have to worry about this issue.....he will not be elected County Judge. Too long in the tooth and everyone knows he is the candidate of Gilberto Hinojosa....and father of Cameron County corruption and fraud.

Poor Johnny Cavazos doesn't know which end is up. His credibility went down the crapper when he hooked up with the perpetually corrupt Dumbokrats.
