With just a few months to go before she turns over the gavel to her successor at the Justice of the Peace Pct. 2, Place 2 Jonathan Garcia, Erin Garcia Hernandez is requesting a 10 percent raise – $5,519 to be exact – over her current $46,348 salary.If approved, the salary for that office will be $50,000.
The salary increase request is part of the county's annual budget process. And while a few other justices of the peace also requested increases, it's interesting to see that her neighbor next door, Justice of the Peace Pct. 2, Place 1 Linda Salazar did not.
Commissioners in the past have stopped short of awarding pay increases across the board and instead have opted to give employees a one-time stipend during the holidays.
In her budget increase request, Garcia Hernandez also included 10 percent raises for her court administrator and two office assistants.
It's doubtful that news of her salary request will fall on sympathetic ears since Public Works and other county employees have not received pay hikes in years. How the court can justify awarding the request after she has been only two years in office In fact, one of her office assistants has only been with the county for a scant three or four months and is also included in the request.
