SOURCES CONFIRM ARGUELLES SR. STRIPPED OF VISA

Following our post about Sergio Arguellles Sr.'s troubles with U.S. authorities over his business visa and is detention in Mexico City, we received word from relatives here that he had not lost his visa and that the reason he as staying in the Mexican capital was because of a bout with pneumonia.
Now we have learned from some of our friends in Mexico that Arguelles – the FINSA maquiladora scion of Matamoros – was detained in New York City after arriving from a Europe and was stripped of his business visa that allowed him to enter the United States.
He was allowed to travel to another destination and chose to go to Mexico City, they say.
Other sources tell us that apparently, Arguelles is on a U.S. Customs check list because his son Sergio Jr., was detained and sent to secondary inspection recently when he arrived in the McAllen airport.
Some people waiting for relatives in the terminal say that they saw the younger Arguelles being sent to the area of secondary inspections after his name triggered a notice that his name was on the list. Sergio Jr. apparently was able to convince the U.S. officials that he was not Arguelles Sr. and he was allowed to go on his way.
SO far, there have been no Arguelles Sr. sightings locally.
In Mexico, news accounts listed him as one of the local individuals linked to former Tamaulipas governor Tomas Yarrington. Yarrington, in turn, has been named in federal indictments in San Antonio in connection with massive money laundering allegedly gained from government kickbacks and payoffs by drug cartels.
