By Juan Montoya
Once again violence has reached across the Rio Grande and touched a local family.
This time it was Carlos Rendon, the son of a prominent local business family and brother of Texas Southmost College board president Kiko Rendon.
Numerous sources tell us that Carlos "Cangas" Rendon was a victim of the gangland violence plaguing our neighbors across the Rio Grande. He reportedly was the victim of a botched kidnap and ransom attempt. Other sources tell us that negotiations with the alleged kidnappers broke down Tuesday night and that on Wednesday morning his body was found in his pickup truck.
Whatever the real story may be, or whatever one may have thought of the now deceased, the fact of then matter is that his death has filled his family with grief.
We join his family and Kiko in mourning and pass along our condolences. May he rest in peace.

My condolences to the family. There are no words to express the void that this senseless act of violence has caused to his friends and family. I am truly sorry for your loss.
God Bless and be with The Rendon Family. Our Hearts go out to Kiko and his entire family. God Bless Carlos' Soul.
So sorry for your loss.
Why was carlos living in matamoros?
Why are you censoring comments Juan ? I thought that is what you stood against.
He was on the run from the law.
he was wanted for killing someone thats why he left the US
I'm surprised he lived as long as he did.
Condolences to his family.
Rendon had been living in Matamoros ever since a DWI accident in which, I believe, other drivers were killed. He went to Matamoros while on bail and was never tried.
I only met him once, years before the accident, and he was a lively and charming guy. I did not know him well but his family certainly is an upstanding family and it is sad to think of him being taken from his children and the rest of the Rendons.
yes, he was wanted for an accidental death.
He was a crook and it caught up to him!!!
Tell the truth Juan. You are paid off by his brother kiko. You know what Carlos did. sober up and grow a pair of balls you pretend journalist.
Accidental death? Please, I don't consider killing a family an accident when you drive drunk. There is a lot to the story. I hope someone can find the newspaper story and post a link. I think it happened in louisana. Although I think driving drunk is quite normal there.
smith county wherever that is
The family, who have nothing to do with his transgressions, are experiencing grief and a great loss. It is unfortunate so many have so little regard for the suffering of the bereaved. May God have mercy on those of you celebrating and gloating at this terrible time. May you never experience the violence that plagues our backyard, and the evil at all of our doorsteps this day.
karma?
We all knew "Cangas" had a drinking problem, we all knew he was involved in the death of some people?
Although we feel for the Rendon family, we also feel for the families of the people that died due to "cangas" fault?
He got involved with the wrong people and that is the result. .....not like he was an innocent victim of the cartel violence and no one is gloating or celebrating.
Cangas loved and was loved more than 99.9% of people will ever experience. Haters gna hate.
