ABBOTT TO SUE OBAMA; E TU CARLOS?

By Juan Montoya
Now that Texas Governor-Elect Greg has decided to join other conservative governors to sue President Barack Obama to try to stop the executive orders that will allow some 5 million people here illegally without getting deported, it will be interesting to see what his Secretary of State Carlos Cascos will do.
Will he, as a legal immigrant, take the soft side with his former nationals, or will he kowtow to his new boss on the hard line he and other governors have chosen to follow?
Cascos, who has been an elected official along the border for the better part of two decades as a county commissioner and later as a twice-elected county judge has been one of those who readily admit to his roots. We remember him addressing a meeting of the Student Honor Society at Oliveira middle School and telling the students that as a legal immigrant, he faced derision and discrimination from Brownsville students who looked down on him and others who were recent arrivals.
To his credit, Cascos overcame that negativity and succeeded as an accountant and later as an elected official.
Border governors – with the notable exception of Jerry Brown and before him George W. – have always plaid the conservative card despite the fact that it was Ronald Reagan who presided over the largest amnesty for the undocumented on record.
If they did it, then why not Obama? He, after all, has nothing to lose with only two years left on his term.
Abbott has stated that he wants his Secretary of State to establish relations with his Mexican counterparts on contentious issues like water and border security. If the actions of Abbott and his conservative compadres get to be to irksome for the Mexicans, will it make Carlos' job a bit more difficult?

Cascos is just another subservient Mexican ready to serve his masters for his own selfish agenda.

Juan, he will go with what the Patron says. He wants to move up the ladder, although, secretary of state don't last too long. Two years and he will be back in South Texas.

The Gov is suppose to represent the people of Texas instead of going around suing the President of the U.S.

A Tx Sec of State is just a token appointment . It has no decision making authority .

Cascos is you, Juan. Just another inconsequential Mexican.

He probably is representing the people of Texas. Remember the results of the election a couple of weeks ago?

Sec. of state is a dead end job, some people are making such a big thing, it isn't. Between 2 and 3 years and back he comes.
