IS MEXICAN TERROR MORE URGENT AND PRESENT THAN ISIS?

By CleverishWonk
As the acrid smell of smoke and tear gas wafted through the streets of Ferguson, Missouri, America seemed to be at a low point.
A summer of discontent was flaming out in spectacular fashion with the Ferguson riots when like a lightning bolt the orange jumpsuit clad figure of James Foley stared us all in the face. An American.
An innocent journalist. As James was savagely beheaded the country started to galvanize. Within weeks Steven Sotloff met the same fate.
It didn’t take long for the Washington establishment to fear monger the public into majority support of a $10 million per day air campaign. What is a paltry $10 million per day when we were told ISIS religious fanatics were literally pouring across our border, and according to US Congressman and soon to be Senator Tom Cotton, were hell bent on slaughtering people in Arkansas as they shuffled into the Waffle House?
The chances that any of us will meet our untimely demise at the hands of a terrorist are about as likely as the Kardashian Klan opening a DASH store in Ferguson. It ain’t gonna happen.
However, if you choose to visit our friendly neighbor to the south, Mexico, you could easily join the 648, as of 2002-2012, American citizens brutally murdered there. This number accounts for a staggering 40 percent of all American overseas deaths from that 10 year period.
While the propaganda murders of two American journalists changed the political, military, and economic landscape of this country, these American citizens seemingly don’t count.
On October 13th three young Americans, all siblings in their early twenties constituting an entire family, were kidnapped in the border city of Matamoros. They had gone to Mexico on a regular visit to see their father. As they ate lunch at a roadside restaurant they were kidnapped by a group of armed men as the Mexican Federal Police looked on and did nothing.
Increasingly it is becoming clear that these men were from Grupo Hercules, an armed group of thugs working for Mayor Leticia Salazar. The timeline of events to follow is largely unknown, however, the outcome is not.

Erica Alvarado – A twenty six year old dedicated mother of four children and aspiring nursing student. Hands and feet bound, shot in the back of the skull, dumped like a piece of garbage. Her body displayed clear signs of torture.

Alex Alvarado – A twenty two year old with a love of cars and a work ethic that lead him to do the back breaking field work that puts food on the plates of oblivious Americans. Hands and feet bound, shot in the back of the skull, dumped like a piece of garbage. His body displayed clear signs of torture.

Jose Alvarado – A twenty one year old agricultural worker who often worked with his brother. Hands and feet bound, shot in the back of the skull, dumped like a piece of garbage. His body displayed clear signs of torture.

Public opinion and national policy will not be affected by this. Unfortunately for this young mother and her two brothers, this act of vicious savagery did not occur in a far off land where a politically advantageous narrative of terrorism was being woven into the national psyche.
Harry Devert was no trust fund baby. Harry had spent his early twenties working hard and finding success within the stock market. Through his own hard work and initiative he had saved enough to live the life he had dreamt of.
At the age of twenty seven, Harry lit off across the globe. He was a gentle and inquisitive soul. He wrote of his love of life and his innate curiosity of the world around him. Most striking however, was his love of humanity.
In his writing one begins to see that the very act of violence seems almost foreign to him.
Nearing the end of his five year journey and a presumed return home to begin compiling his writing efforts, the life of this brilliant young man ended. Harry was kidnapped sometime around January 25th of this year while riding his motorcycle in the Mexican state of Guerrero.
His body was found this summer. He was chopped into pieces and placed into two trash bags. His dismembered remains were left to rot along a dirt path.
Does the moral bankruptcy of United States foreign policy know no limits? We continue to trade and support a nation awash in psychotic murderous thugs, heinously corrupt politicians, and known terror organizations.
We look the other way as innocent Americans are slaughtered for sport on our nation’s doorstep while unleashing the full power of the US military on empty buildings in Syria.
Mexico is a failed, corrupt, narco-terror state that limps along through history by the tacit support of feckless politicians in Washington.
Policy needs to change. Public opinion needs to change.
We all need to say, to hell with you, Mexico.

Most local people are so tied to Mexico by family, emotion, loyalty or financial gain they can't or won't recognize the horror that is going on there and call it what it is. They are certainly not going to call on the US government to take steps to punish Mexico for this slaughter.

Terror is among us. We don't have to go too far. You can start with the Brownsville City Commission. They've been terrorizing and stealing from the city folks for some time.
