Cameron County administrator Pete Sepulveda calls it a major milestone.
The required final study on how construction of the second causeway will impact the environment has been submitted to federal authorities for review.
Sepulveda said the environmental impact study has been in the works since 2012.
They hope to begin construction by the summer of 2017 and have it finished three years later.

You imbeciles, this will kill the economy of Laguna Heights.
What economy ?
Any idea of what the Toll would be for this bridge???? And, the the "Anonymous Imbecile".....no community is destroyed by this kind of development.....just means the current "eye sore" community will be upgraded.
There's an economy in Laguna Heights? Who knew?
....and what an economic power house of industry that is!
Pendejos!!! He was being sarcastic...
Go Tarpons!
Second causeway, Great. Mr. Sepulveda deserves the credit for the project going forward, no doubt, but if he is appointed to fill the position of County Judge when Cascos leaves, will that be considered holding 2 public offices of emolument, the RMA is a County organization, created by the County, directors appointed by the County Court members, and financed by the county and County guaranteed and issued bond money.
