MONITOR JAILS SYLVIA, SAYS SHE CAN'T MAKE BOND
By Juan Montoya
Well, what do the folks over at the McAllen Monitor (Hidalgo County) know that we don't?
In a story posted at 10:41 p.m. Friday contains a glaring headline announcing that "Cameron County clerk-elect still in jail" over a Emma Perez-Treviño story detailing Ms. Sylvia Garza-Perez's continuing saga about her failure to obtain a $500,000 officeholder surety bond required for her to take her oath of office.
Her supporters say that she will be able to obtain that bond (she already has $100,000) within the 30 days that her attorney Ron Armstrong was able to obtain from the Cameron County commissioners court during a special meeting Tuesday.
Emma's story basically was an update on Garza-Perez's problems acquiring that bond.
Her story on the Valley Morning Star this morning carries the headline "County Clerk Bond Pending."
It is obvious that a copy editor at the Monitor (or the online edition) jumped to conclusions about her inability to procure and post the bond and assumed that it was someone in jail who was trying to bail out.
Regardless, the story was brought to our attention at about 11;30 a.m. Saturday, more than 12 hours after it was posted. That's a long time in cyber social media not correct the mistake.
We have not seen a hard copy of the newspaper, but if the same headline was used, the mistake was carried all over the Rio Grande Valley.
Errors like this happen more often than one likes to admit, and it is easy to see how in a milieu like Hidalgo county which has seen its shares of misbehaving pubic officials, it isn't a hard story to swallow.
Call it a result of scandal fatigue on the part of the newspaper types. But to shell-shocked Sylvia who has seen her name prominently placed in blaring headlines a little too much for her liking, it would seem that – just as the recent weather – when it rains, it pours.
See for yourself if it's still there: http://www.themonitor.com/news/local/cameron-county-clerk-elect-still-in-jail/article_b28101e0-92e9-11e4-9007-cb2d645f8846.html

It also means the editor didn't read the story.
I feel so sorry for this woman, nobody wants her. There has to be a reason. Nobody wants to Bond her, Honey, just let it go, they don't want you. Don't stress your family anymore. It's not worth it. God bless you,They don't want you, Let it go!
I spent 4 years stationed in a Banana Republic . The only difference is that down there, they escort you to the Wall, (El Paredón and shoot you.) Down here they jail you or the Credit Bureus stripp you of your credit. ...er, or the IRS does the job.
Close, but not jail. More like political purgatory.
The people of Cameron County want Sylvia Garza Perez in office . Sylvia has two county wide victories under her and the people of Cameron County believe in her . With winning two county wide election Sylvia has built a strong voter base and that does not sit well with others in the political scene in Cameron County . Sylvia don't let it go , fight for what you have earned and fight for the people that voted you in !
Our friendly D.A. Is a Crook and doesn't know it. He has greasy Palms !
**Breaking News ** Sylvia Garza Perez has been bonded just waiting on commissioners court approval .
Well must be a huge RATA y de dos patas, being backed up by gilberto joe rivera and juan magazines. This is why many folks have turned away from the Cameron county democRATic party and its leadership or lack of.
