Numerous reports indicate that a virtual state of war continues to plague northern Tamaulipas, with blocked roads and running gun battles in city streets and confrontations on the roads between Matamoros and Reynosa. Many media sources indicate that it is a war between factions of the Gulf Cartel and the military which have led to this newest outbreak of violence. Scores of gunmen and some civilians are said to have died in the last three days. The military forces, as usual, claims that they have suffered no casualties in the mayhem. The U.S. Consulate in Matamoros has issued advisories to its employees and American citizens to stay away from both cities and not to venture out on the roads.

But Mayor Tony Martinez on TV last night says things are just "hunky dorey" and we should not worry about these little "inconveniences" across the border. Tony Martinez is more worried about the economic relationship between this community and Matamoroa than he is security of the citizens on both sides. His "blowing off" the terrorism that exists on the border is pathetic and an indications of just how bad the leadership is in Brownsville. While most U.S. citizens have stopped going across to enjoy Mexico, we are being flooded by those seeking to escape the insecurity of Mexico...even the cartel families are living on this side to be safe. Tony Martinez, Sheriff Omar Lucio continue to "poo-poo" the threat that exists. Both are out of contact with the concerns of the majority of citizens.
Tony assured the Brownsville citizens, that if there were any trouble heading to Browsnville, Letty (Matamoros Mayor) would immediately notify him.
