LITTLE BIRDIES UPON WHICH STRANGE TREE YOU PERCH?
(Ed's Note: One of our readers sent us this photo of three turtle doves perched upon a strange-looking tree right before the weekend rains came to the valley. The tree's trunk is lined with large thick thorns and they say that when the tree blooms, it has bright blue flowers. The tree is one of several that grow on St. Francis between Third and Fourth streets. We also understand that Capt. Bob has a small tree of the same kind growing on his lawn next to the resaca. W e have been unable to find out what it's called, but if you know, shoot us a note so we can share it with our readers.)

These trees grow inside Gladys Porter Zoo. There have signs in front of them with all the information.
A new species of Birds have been discovered at the Glass Palace. They are called, Jail Birds".
It looks like an Hernandez tree but instead of thorns, those have horns. Hi Erin!
I don't know what kind of a tree that is but I do know that those birds are not "turtle" doves. The shot is a little distant for me but those are likely Inca Doves if they are not Mourning Doves. Turtle doves do not occur in the Americas (north, south or central). They may be European or even African but they are not American.
Who cares what doves they are....the question is about the tree.
It's a silk floss tree
It's a kapok tree
It's the Garcia Family Tree.
