By Juan MontoyaFor months now, Cameron County District Attorney Luis Saenz has been reported making the rounds and introducing his Public Integrity Unit chief Victor Cortez to his political friends.
There was nothing about Saenz asking them for their political support as Cortez was rumored to be making a run for the Cameron County Sheriff seat held now by Omar Lucio.
Now, in an exclusive with Univision Noticias 48's Enrique Lerma, Cortez has announced he has handed in his letter of resignation as chief of the PIU to concentrate on making a run for office.
On March 17 Cortez handed in is letter of resignation.
Saenz said he will be missed.
I feel a bit sad," Saenz told the broadcaster. "He made a great contribution to the office and helped to improve its image. We will miss him."
Cortez was an agent for the DEA for more than 42 years. He had been with the DA's Office for the last 18 months, the majority of nthat spent in the anti-eight-liner Operation Bishop.
He said he will formally announce his candidacy in the next 30 days.

He might have been a federal agent for a long time but he had absolutely no clue on how to run an 8-liner operation. No idea on how to get probable cause and then what to do after executing the warrants. And now he wants to be the sheriff! I don't think so!!

Folks, I still think Judge Michael Trejo from La Feria is our best candidate for sheriff...he is young and energetic. He is not looking for a "cushy" job after retirement.
