MARIO URGES SUPPORT FOR COMMUNITIES IN SCHOOLS

Special to El Rrun-Rrun
Local businessman and former Port of Brownsville commissioner has been an avid supporter of Communities in Schools of Cameron County.
For years, he has encouraged the participation of local businesses and organizations to urge school children to stay in school through the implementation of support systems in the community to allow them to do just that.
CIS has held all types of fundraisers from garage sales to requests for donations throughout the county. The organization has mentors and counselors to advice at-risk students not to give up.
"Without an education, you don't have much of a chance," Villarreal said. "Without an educated new generation, a community doesn't have much of a chance either."
Tomorrow, CIS is hosting its Fifth Annual "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" fundraiser for women 21 and older. The Girls Just Wanna Have Fun Glam Party will be offering beauty treatments such as hair, makeup and spa services from 6 to 10 p.m. at the Brownsville Event Center.
For $25, women can sip, shop and be pampered to help the education effort.
There will be also be fashion accessory vendors, door prizes and a silent auction.
Tickets are $25 and can be purchased at the door.
To purchase tickets or get more information on the event, call (956) 554-7954.
"I encourage all who can to attend," Villarreal said. "Our children are a good cause."
