The pet idea of having local dogs and cats implanted with a microchip to identify their owners in case they get lost has fueled a cat fight between a city commissioner and some of her biggest supporters.
A proposal presented to the city commission Tuesday by Arturo Rodriguez, the city's Public Health Director, to pass an ordinance making it mandatory for pet owners to implant microchips in their pets for easier identification in case they are lost and picked up by Animal Control, has met with resistance from District 2 Commissioner Jessica Tetreau-Kalifa.
She took to her Facebook page (as she often does) to blast those who are pushing for the measure for pushing "misinformation." (See graphic above).
Tetreau's ire at having her motives questioned by some of her readers resulted in her "defriending"and deleting and blocking Marletta Knapp, a family member of the Knapp auto dealership heir and one of her biggest supporters during her recent runoff election race with Sergio Zarate.
The Knapp and Roberts families and employees have run dealerships in Brownsville, Harlingen, and the Rio Grande Valley since 1934.
The move to delete Knapp's differences on the chip implant from her Facebook page set off a round of criticism of the commish by Knapp's friends and supporters of the proposal.

She – like a local Wonder Pet – is often called out to assist animals in trouble.
But what Tetreau commented later in the FB dialogue was, ahem, pregnant with veiled hints at the breadth commissioner's umbrage at her former supporter.
Knapp is also the animal advocate representative on the city's Animal Shelter Advisory Committee.
Taking a page straight out of Scarface, Tetreau hints that Knapp's family livelihood "that she actually sells cars to the city" is somehow relevant to the microchip implant debate.
Since the missive was placed on Facebook near midnight, you can't blame it on morning sickness, can you?
The method seems to be: "If people don't agree with you bash them, block them and then destroy their business and try to get them fired."
Will Tetreau make sure there is a vacancy on the Animal Shelter Advisory Committee?

Tetreau should go back to the car wash! It makes a great deal of sense to chip pets, but Tetreau and her "friends" are afraid of being identified as pet abusers, or of having to be resposible for their pets. City Commission should vote to chip animals.
Isn't Marsletta Knapp one of Pat Ahumadas psychotic pet rescue posse? Why is the city trying to impose these stupid fees that we don't have money for! Brownsville is the poorest city in the nation and all these assholes care about is putting an expensive chip in a dog. Tetreau has her issues but I'm glad that she spoke up against this overburdened tax.
One thing I haven't heard anyone mention yet is, how much does the microchip cost? If it's a small amount, then hell YES we should microchip them! As someone who has lost a pet that ran away, I spent hours, days and weeks putting up fliers and searching for my dog. Asking neighbors, driving around looking. Calling the animal shelters, PAWS, hoping they wouldn't put him down before I could find him. In this case a microchip would have saved me and others with a runaway pet, a lot of heartbreak. In retrospect, it is part of responsible pet ownership costs, like vaccinations, deworming, grooming and dog food.
Why is Tetreau afraid of being labeled a "pet abuser" but didn't mind being an actual domestic violence abuser? It isn't a dog "bitch" we should be microchipping, but Tetreau. I'm sure Arturo Kalifa would personally thank us about not having to live in fear.
"an expensive chip in a dog" Do you know how much this expensive chip is? I think if you did you would have included that information. It makes you look like someone willing to make uninformed comments. Find out and then decide if it is expensive. But I think if it were free of charge you wouldn't have one implanted in a pet because I think, based on your comment debasing someone for rescuing distressed animals, you don't care much about them.
Knapp was wrong to react the way she did. I saw what she wrote about Jesica and I believed it was very spiteful just because it wasn't what knapp wanted people to do. knapp should pay for the chipps herself if she wants everyone to use them.
My concern is that there are a lot of people who do not take responsibility for their pets not sure that this is the answer will see.the problem I have is there are residents, some with vicious pit bulls or other dogs that get out of their property and city has warned them over and over to secure their pets and these idot people just don't care.ciry needs to hit them where it hurts in their pocket books.why should residents live in fear in there own homes wondering if the dogs are lose .
Nobody gives a fuck about kids in this town. But dogs! Hey, let's save the fuckers!!!
Tony Martinez and the rest of the commissioners are full of caca, and they all should be micro-chipped, so the public would know where they are at all times?
Marsletta, unlike jess, has done much more for the community; jess is a snake that would turn against you anytime and anyplace?
My chihuahua! He no need no stinkin' microcheap!
Tony Da Mayor and the rest of the Commissh should be microchip on each derrièr cheek. We can follow the gold where they go.
Block and unfriend? Sounds like she's following the fatass Cheezmeh's footsteps. Pendejos who's lives revolve around Facebook. Get a life, losers.
Rutile Potfolio needs a microchit in each booob for location tracking. A drone has been set up by city maintenance.
Tetreau is the dumbest bitch in Brownsville. If you call her out and make her look dumb she will call the city manager and cry for him to do something right away. Remember when the new iPhone 6+ came out? Tetreau had city employees waiting outside the store the night before to get her a new phone which you, I and all the taxpayers paid for. She recently posted a picture of her new city business cards and they have a phone number on there but it doesn't do us any good because she doesn't answer the damn phone. We paid for her phone, the service and we have no representation. That dumb bitch barely has a high school degree. She's a nobody and will go back to being a nobody when she leaves office.
What the heck does it matter that the Knapp lady sells cars to the city? She has to go through a competitive bid process. She could be using her time selling cars instead of donating it to a board which she feels is a good cause. The question here should be why Tetreu washes all the city vendors' cars. Are they giving her business in exchange for her vote on a contract? I think so.
