CORTEZ RUNNING FOR SHERIFF AS GOP. WILL SAENZ FOLLOW?

By Juan Montoya
We suspected all along that Cameron County Sheriff candidate Victor Cortez was a closet Republican, but now we have the proof in the pudding.
Tomorrow, at 12 p.m., Cortez – along with red-blooded Republican John Chambers, will be addressing the Republican Club of Brownsville at the VICC.
If you remember, Cortez was the Cameron County District Attorney's director of the Public Integrity Unit. He was also one of a closed circle of DA Office administrators close to current incumbent Luis Saenz.
For what it's worth, Cortez has made himself out to be the sleuth that solved the Kike Camarena slaying and claims he was tortured by corrupt Mexican police while in pursuit of the Camarena perpetrators.
Well, claims by former DEA agents who work on the fringes of legality are hard to prove and we'll take those claims with a grain of salt. That he was captured with his informant and they had several "cuernos de chivo" in the trunk and no vehicle registration probably didn't help his case with the Mexicans. His superior, he has admitted, saved his captors just in time as he was about to overpower them. Hold me back! Hold me back!
We're sure we'll hear about his exploits again.
But as far as local politics is concerned, there are some slippery slopes to climb here. When his former boss attempted to stage a press conference at Valley International Airport in Harlingen to deliver fugitive murderer Amit Livingston to the Cameron County Sheriff for custody, Cortez was invited by Saenz because "I helped to locate him in India."
Like we said, claims made by Cortez are difficult to prove and that on ewe'll leave to our three readers' discretion. It's hard to believe that Cortez working the phones from Harrison Street in Brownsville was responsible for spurring the Interpol across the world, the Indian police in New Delhi, and the U.S. State Department into action.
Ya never know.
Anyway, there remains a suspicion that Saenz himself – after declaring himself a Democrat – might jump across the red-blue line if the green cash doesn't materialize with the Democrats. After all, as Sheriff Dept. administrator said, Luis is seen as someone who turned his back on his friends and supporters after he got into office.
"Among Mexicans, that's one thing you never do," he said. "People don't forget that."
So as the 2016 election politics begin, will we see folks jumping hither and yonder across party lines if local money dries up?

In the political arena we call these people, "Chaqueteros" .

Seems the Dumbokratic Party of Cameron County is courting Masso, not the self-serving Saenz. If Saenz aligns himself with Sheriff Omar "Senile" Lucio he may be hitching his wagon to a dead horse. Lucio is over the hill, but his allies need to keep him going to keep their jobs. Masso is quiet, but his political signs seem to be popping up everywhere.....Isn't it to early for those signs??
Yeah, we know he is saying they are left over from his last campaign....great Gilberto Hinojosa style.

Seems that Ruben Villareal opposing Ruben Hinojosa in Hidalgo County has caused the lisping liar to say he wants to run again...even though two weeks ago his staffers were out looking for work, expecting him to retire. Ruben Hinojosa needs to be replaced so that the region can progress. Won't happen with Ruben, who is now taking free trips compliments of lobby groups and foreign governments. Ruben Hinojosa is a slug who has slimed up the area for too long.

"Among Mexicans" people do whatever the fuck they want, Juan. Get real, guey!

Your implication is that he was wrong to bring down the 8 liners because the owners supported him, and Mexicans don't turn their backs on their supporters ...come on. To not go after them would have been to neglect the duties of the office. Reselling, may be a different story. Should not be an elected position, neither should judicial positions. Leaves too much room for corruption, or the appearance of corruption.

If allowed, could you please provide info as to where to contact candidate for D.A. Masso's campaign headquarters.
Something like an address or phone number would be helpful...thanks.

My vote is for Mr. Chambers, I refuse to vote for a man like Cortez that looks like Alex Oetez and the mind of a corruption of Conrado Cantu and a Ginny pig for Saenz. Just saying

Cortez is a Culo. Exaggerates his DEA days. Not trustworthy. Too old to be sheriff. We're tired of oldie Omar!
