COUNTY TABLES ANNOVA LNG'S $25 MILLION TAX ABATEMENT

Bulletin:
Saying they need more information before they make a decision on whether to grant Annova LNG a 10-year $25 million tax abatement for construction of a terminal export facility for liquefied natural gas, the Cameron County Commissioners Court tabled the vote until they can get the additional information.
After hearing a score of protesters against the plants and the abatements, Pct. 1 commissioner Sofia Benavides made a motion
seconded by Pct. 2 commissioner Alex Dominguez to table the item.
Pct. 3 commissioner suggested – and Benavides agreed and amended her motion – that a vote should not be taken until they consult with the county's financial advisers and get a report from an independent auditor.
Pct. 4 commissioner Dan Sanchez was not present at the meeting.
The motion passed unanimously.
In the proposed agreement included in the package was the inclusion of language that said that Annova would pay about $7 million for the first two years to the county for construction of the
facility. After approval of the facility by the federal government, it would take approximately two more years for the construction of the export terminal. Operations would begin in 2020, when the abtatements would kick in.
That was what worried Garza who said that if and when the county chose to forego on the taxes on the $1.6 billion facility (eventually reaching $3 billion), the county budget would take a hit and there would be a shortfall that would have to be dealt with by the commissioners court at that time.
"As a person who has borne the cost of paying the taxes...of doing business...I get pissed," Garza, who runs a pharmacy business, said.

"Pct. 4 commissioner Dan Sanchez was not present at the meeting."
(Was there another football game in Austin? Was there a valid excuse?)

Of course he wasn't there .... if the vote was to approve or not approve the abatement, he could say he never voted for it.

I hate politicians who when a critical vote is to be taken, they mysteriously disappear.

And he wants to be county judge; I don't think so!

Sanchez was is a "Tyler Technologies Conference in Colorado." You should look into his travel and the hotels he and staff stay at. Lucrative and OUTRAGEOUS!

Did they say it was a $1.6 billion facility? Because it's $2.9 billion. If Annova is undervaluing, then that $25 million could be a gross underestimation.

Remember the windshield wiper company? Haw did public funding pay the community back there? Are there other examples? Questions to ponder
