READER SUBMITS LOGO FOR BROWNTOWN: DIDN'T COST $90K

(Ed.'s Note: After posting the $90,000 (or is it $140,000?) logo produced by Hahn Communications of Austin, one of our three readers fired off an email to show that other designs should be considered at a fraction of the price. His design (on top) differs from the one submitted by Hahn, but does have some similar content such as the name, and the exploration of the future (SpaceX), It also has the additional components of rich "culture" and beautiful "nature" that is missing from the bottom one. In the past, many wags have made it a joke to say that Brownsville is in the rectum of the Rio Grande. This has led to some commenters to say that the "V" under the map of Texas symbolizes just that, the state being flatulent over the Tip o' Texas, us. Well, all jokes aside, even though the usual suspects (commissioner Rose Gowen, et al)_ have predictably come out in defense of the logo proposed by the company which employs Ronnie Oliveira, the state rep's cousin, we are far from reaching a consensus on the Hahn design. It looks like a rush job for a quick buck. What say you, our three readers? The super-duper extravangent deluxe hype job on the bottom, or the understated one on top that didn't cost an arm and a leg? Someone else suggested that the city should have held a scholasship contest to pick the top three submissions by studetns at Texas Southmost College and the new UTB. With a $10,000 top scholarship price and the other two prizes at $5,000 each, it would cost only $20,000 instead of the oodles of cash that went to the Austin firm and the money would stay at home to help local students. But that probably makes too much sense and the money doesn't go where our leaders want it to go.)

The version on the top, by all means! Can we get our money back from "igniting Brownsville?"

The only change I would recommend is changing the word Explore to Experience

My VOTE is for the top one......

There is no planning in Brownsville. The city leaders respond spontaneously to issues as they arise/pop up. Sort of like the game at Chucky Cheeze...hammering the mole. There is no obvious city plan...one year, five year, 10 year that has been made available to the public. Tony Martinez keeps everything close to his feeble chest and doesn't like public participation. The taxpayers are the victims of an "elitist" city management (no leadership ever indicated by Tony and friends.) Browsville is a sad city....poor, ignorant voters, who seem to accept corrupt government. Nothing will improve until citizens take action.

There are no "innovative" planners in Brownsville. It would make sense to keep this project in Brownsville....but as usual the city officials have given a relative of Rene Oliviera.... In this case the citizens were left out of the process and perhaps $140,000.00 was wasted; but this group of officials, led by Tony Martinez, will always leave the public out of any planning. Tony Martinez seems to think like Julieta Garcia...that they are "all knowing" and superior to us mere mortal taxpayers.

How about this slogan?

"Ignite Brownsville. Put us out of our misery."

or...

"Ignite Brownsville. If we can vote out the corrupted and incompetent, we'll burn them out."

or...

"LNG: Providing the fuel that will one day ignite Brownsville."

Both designs look like a grade schooler made them. They should have gone to the college art department and gotten something better for free. Oliveira's cousin looks like he did that design in 20 minutes. Looks like shit.

my design was created in powerpoint in less than 10 minutes...but at least i am making an attempt to bring something to the table versus just bitching about it. the JAIBA mentality persist and will never get this community to move forward.

Juan, would have been good if you would have notified me u were going to post my image, which was never my intent sir.

...but hey, got some conversation started. enjoy the weekend folks.

The crazed hairy oddity aka the blimp, is against LNG dudes.....yet another effort the gay blogger wants to champion...lol!

The blubbery bucket of grease would rather have a nude beach rather than an LNG plant that would create jobs and would be put on the tax rolls.....he is concerned about pollution dudes...isn't his naked body polluting dudes?...lol!

Some crazy commenter on the hairy ball of grease's blog, asks the mental case blimp why he doesn't run for congress.....to which the gordo answers...he did not have the $250,000 needed to run a campaign.....he mentions that if he would to hit the lottery, he would deposit $1,000.000.00 and go for it dudes.....ahhh blimp...you could deposit 100 million and you would not get elected dude.....if you put all the recycled candidates that run and run but never win....you would give them their first win...psycho....lol!

The only chance the gay ball of grasa has to win is if all the people in his head vote....he would win in a landslide.....lol!

3:20 Your obsession with the individual you describe is scary. All you do is insult, shame and criticize a group of people. Do you have a perfect body or are all of your family members slim and trim? Grow up....
