For months before the passing of the City of Brownsville 2015-2016 fiscal year budget, there had been discussion on giving a 5 percent pay raise to non-contract city employees.
With an appeals court dealing a double whammy to city legal advisers and those commissioners who heeded their call to fight the lawsuit filed by both the city cops and firefighters under their "me too" clause, there was a current of thought that the non-contract working stiffs would also hold out their hands and get a "me too" consideration.
But not to be.
Drawing heavily on an old Saturday Night Live sketch character, "the liar," some department administrators were repeating this fabrication of an excuse.
Some employees recall hearing the echoes of "Yea, yea! That's the ticket!" as blame for the stall was placed on innocent and unaware parties.From the timing of the scuttling of the proposed raise, one can only infer that "the money was needed elsewhere".
What elsewhere quickly arose?
Well the incident popularly called Logogate was the first large and ridiculously unnecessary buddy pocket-stuffing event to hit the table, despite being panned by 80 percent of the people polled.
This means – true to form, of course – that these elected persons defied the will of the people and did it anyway.
The obscene amount of $140,000 was paid for that childish scrawl to "rebrand" the city and, as expected, is only the tip of the iceberg in their plan for diarrhea like spending on this "project".
Take careful note that not one drop of floodwater will be diverted by this expense, but the commission is in high hopes that your attention will be. Before this insanity ends one must wonder if much like "the artist formerly known as Prince" that Brownsville will be called "the City formerly On the Border, By the Sea".
Besides absolutely defying the will of the people, they shoved this childish scrawl on the City employees in place of a raise.
Now we have the follow up to the Hahn plan to rebrand the city in their proposed budget. And it's not a $140,000 or $400,000, but Rene Oliveira's cousin Ronnie wants $ $820,000.
Items include paid media (outdoor, print and digital), creative services, owned media, direct marketing, earned media and events, and research.
The $140,000 was merely the mine canary to see if the Rubes on the Rio Grande would bite. Then they pulled out the big ladle. While the poor stiffs who are not contract employees with the city slog along like old crones, the benevolent commission keeps giving money away to smooth, techno-crap talking charlatans whose work product doesn't contribute a whit to the progress of the city or the services it renders to its residents.

City workers must clearly understand that they are not receiving a pay raise because the Mayor, Tony Martinez, has wasted so much money that a raise is not justifiable in their little minds. All the real estate that Tony had the city buy to support Julieta Garcia....now sitting vacant (the property, not Julieta), was the money that might have given all a raise. Poor Tony Martinez has wasted your pay raise and given your money to Abraham Galonsky and other profiteers.
Of course Jessica T.K has a new outfit every week from her new found wealth after becoming a commissioner wink wink. With all the rain and more rain on the forecast the citizens of Brownsville, TX are lining up on the street to get their cars washed at JT carwash because the commissioner needs a new pair of $1000.00 dollar shoes to match her $2000.00 dollar purse along with her new $500.00 dollar hair extensions. There is no end to her spending while promoting the new logo to (as she says it) Her District. Everytime Jessica walks the streets of District 2 women and children stop what their doing to run to the streets and throw her candy, flowers and kneel down to kiss her new shoes as a sign of gratitude she is their Commissioner.
Get ready for another 4 years of lavish life style while rumors of a new reality show is in the mix for the commish. The name of the reality show is FROM A SHOT GIRL TO COMMISSIONER.
Cops were not suing the city under that clause, it was only the fire fighters.
She can spend and buy all the beautiful things but she will always still be UGLY AND ART WILL CONTINUE TO STILL HAVE A WONDERING EYE FOR YOUNGER GIRLS, HE HAS PITTY OVER HER , AND ONCE AGAIN SHE HAS TRAPPED THIS ELDERLY MAN WITH ANOTHER PREGNANCY, MUCH TO BE SEEN SOON, WHO'S BABY IS IT ,POOR ELDERLY MAN ART OR POWERFUL CITY ATTORNEY MARK??? That is so true she was the shot girl from club 151 I totally remember that. How funny now she trying to clean up her act, not really she still had an affair with a married man , now the poor soul is stuck with her and with 2 children and one on the way... Errrrr....have to call bullshit on this one. The Firefighters were never asked before this reason for shitcaning the raise. The administration had been spreading that reason to kill the raise long before the Firefighters found out that the administation was making them the bad guys.
Non contract City Employees always get the shit end of the stick. Ya Basta Commission. And no, it's no one's fault but the City Commission and the mayor. Not to mention that tight wad City Manager which has NOT gone 5 years without a raise. Have you no shame.
