A political ad for District Attorney Luis V. Saenz published in the Valley Morning Star on Oct. 4, demands my response.
This ad highlighted his Perseverance Service Award from the Parents of Murdered Children in Pharr.
This father of a murdered child in Harlingen takes issue with that.
Mr. Saenz certainly showed perseverance as the defense attorney for Alma Guadalupe Quintanilla in 1998 after she murdered my 2-year-old daughter, Maggie.
He initially argued to quash the indictment on a semantic issue, delaying her trial by three months.
He then passionately defended her, even insinuating Maggie’s 6-year-old brother had some input into his sister’s devastating injuries.
After the jury correctly found his client guilty, Mr. Saenz pled for leniency in sentencing, asking for probation for the mature woman, who, rather than caring for Maggie, as she was paid to do, “beat her to death with eight blows to the head,” according to the pathologist’s testimony.
After his client received her 10-year sentence for the killing of my little girl, Mr. Saenz requested, and Alma Quintanilla received an appellate bond. This allowed Alma to be free on bond for period of time longer than Maggie’s entire lifespan.
Yes, giving Luis V. Saenz an award for perseverance may be warranted, but it should not be granted by parents of murdered children, but rather from their perpetrators.

Isn't that an Amit Livingston kind of thing, letting a convicted murderer out on bond?
OPEN YOUR EYES PEOPLE! Luis Saenz is nothing more than a lying, conniving snake. He cares only about whats in his best interests. He doesnt give a shit about victims or serving justice! OUT WITH SAENZ!!!

Ultimately, it is only God who delivers the final judgement and punishment!!!!!! God Bless Little Maggie
"respect restored" so claims our valiant District Attorney who has done nothing but the contrary. what a blatant disrespect to victims and their families. honestly, this is sickening. just goes to show he has no integrity or morals, and will sell himself to the highest bidder.
One could argue that, as a defense attorney, Saenz was only doing his job. Problem is, as DA, Saenz is the best defense attorney Ernie and Erin Hernandez' money could buy. He fought to keep a child killer out of jail, but didn't fight on behalf of this county's citizens. Rather, he just laid down.
VOTE NO TO LUIS V. SAENZ!
So this is what he claims in his campaign posters "BEFORE AND AFTER" wow you should be ashamed of yourself pinches BIGOTES MEADOS!!
Just shows that all lawyers can't be trusted. They take one side as a defense attorney and then another as a DA. Luis Saenz can't be trusted...bottom line. Lawyers have no soul.....
Luis is a trampa, tramp trampa, always has been always will be but voters are alwyas duped by his bravado bs
Exactly what I was thinking. This guy gives criminals a chance to run. Bad, bad, bad!
It is a Defense Attorney's job to put up a vigorous defense for his client. His job is to defend the client's rights and not the clients morals or the act itself. In the case at hand Mr. Saenz did his job and nothing more.
The Texas criminal justice system requires both a prosecution and a defense. A criminal cannot be punished without both sides doing their job. This involves a diligent, involved and energetic prosecution and defense. Nobody wants the prosecution to do a half-assed job and neither should the defense. The criminal justice system, the people of Texas, and the defendant requires the best efforts of all involved.
It is the norm that people who practice criminal law spend time on both sides of the bar, i.e. prosecution and defense. This in fact makes them better attorneys having seen the issue from both sides.
It is understandable that a grieving father would transfer some of his anger from the killer of his child to the defense attorney. But, as understandable as it is, it is also misplaced.
Lawyers who yearn for political office (mostly because serving on the taxpayer dime is easier than practicing law) should remember, when you defend the perverts, killers, baby abusers, spousal abusers, as a defense attorney, you then have a problem with the public when (as Luis Saenz has done) you seek to be the "Defender of Abuse" as an elected official....the public sees the hypocrisy and Luis Saenz is OUt!!!!
Cucarachas of the World, unite. Petition the DA to get rid of his cockroach sweepers. It gives us a bad perception.
