If you read the newspaper account of an arrest at Gateway Bridge of a 44-year-old Brownsville man was arrested Oct. 1 on charges that allege he had sex with an underage victim and was taking him to Matamoros.
The incident occurred after the U.S. Customs had stopped a 2001 GMC Sonoma S-10 occupied by two subjects. The driver was identified as David Gallegos Covarrubias and passenger as a male 15-year-old juvenile and an active runaway out of the Brownsville Police Department.
BPD investigators said that Covarrubias had told them that he had met the juvenile on social media/internet.
At this time, Sex Crimes Investigators made contact with Covarrubias. Covarrubias gave a statement implicating himself to meeting the juvenile on the internet on Friday September 25th 2015.
Further investigations revealed Covarrubias had sexual contact with the juvenile victim. Covarrubias was placed under arrest and charged with Sexual Assault. Bond was set at $30,000.
Now it turns out that Covarrubias is an English teacher at Lopez Highs School that the 15-year-old is a student there, and that two weeks after he was arrested at the bridge, Covarrubias was still in the classroom as if nothing had happened.
Other social media has since confirmed confirm that as of Oct. 15, he was still an active English teacher at Lopez.
In fact, Covarrubias was involved in numerous extracurricular activities where he is in a position of authority over minors, including managing the Destination ImagiNation team for his school in competition this past February.
And school sources tell us that the parents of the boy had reported that Covarrubias had been giving gifts to their son and that they had reported this inappropriate behavior to the school principal and administration.
The principal at the school is Dahlia Aguilar, known to many staff and students as a supporter of alternative lifestyles and personal sexual preferences. While there is nothing wrong with embracing diversity, the fact that she or her staff may have been alerted to Covarrubias' predatory behavior and had not taken steps to prevent what eventually happened between a minor and his adult aggressor might raise serious questions about the safety of students under their supervision.
The parents say nothing was done about their concerns, resulting in the incident at the bridge and whatever happened in Matamoros between them.
Why didn't the BPD report that the incident involved a teacher and student of the BISD?
And if he is still an "active" teacher there, shouldn't the parents and students be warned and the administration take immediate steps to remove him from the school environment?

Spotted Da Blimp's mother drinking a Pina Colada at The Vermillion. she was sitting with a dude who looked like Luis saenz. Ya think? ha ha ha
The number of male homosexuals in the RGV is amazingly high. The "macho" image of Hispanic males is ruined by articles like this. They can't get a woman, so they go for a "butt" hole...."cornhole". Not very "macho".
Check the BISD web page. Bertha Presas was moved and another interim principal will be at Hanna HS. What's next? Zendejas will move the Lopez principal to another assignment? Ah, but BISD has early college high schools.
Is Jim Bartonon food stamps like his deadbeat son? how can he criticize officials when he is using the system? Get a job, dude!
Didn't this already happen when she was at the bootcamp? Cover up a improper relationship between worker and student. Wasn't she on suspension for this already
It is amazing that "cornhole" politics in Cameron County is so prevalent and gets such benefits from Luis Saenz.
Who wants a fat woman, as it appears that is all there is.
