MATA MAYOR TO RESIDENTS: CAN'T HELP YOU, STAY INSIDE!

By Juan Montoya
It must be discomforting to Matamoros residents to hear their mayor Lety Salazar's advice on how to deal with the unleashed violence between armed groups following the arrest of the Gulf Cartel head Prado Rodríguez, also known as “El Ciclón 7.”
Dis she say that she would make sure the citizenry was safe?
Did she tell them that her personal bodyguard Grupo Hercules would guarantee their safety?
No, she asks them instead to lock the doors, stay inside and pray hard.
“Confidence and my faith in God is my major strength to stay firm before all circumstances, and to continue fighting every day for my beloved Matamoros,” she wrote on her Facebook page Monday.
Salzar, who – like Tamaulipas Governor Egidio Torre Cantu – does not venture out into the streets without a considerable and well-armed contingent, apparently feels that if residents hide and pray, they would be better off than going about their business.
Mass and social media reports indicate that Matamoros was wracked by multiple gunfights between law enforcement and armed men believed to be linked to organized criminal organizations operating in the state of Tamaulipas.
“Unfortunately in these moments there are reports of violent acts in various locations of our Matamoros,” the local newspaper reported that Salazar wrote on a separate post. “I ask everyone to use extreme caution in order to safeguard their physical integrity and stay in your homes if there is no extreme situation forces you to go outside.”
The capture of Rodriguez sparked a series of law enforcement blockades and multiple bloody gun battles throughout the border state.
Multiple gun battles across the city force the U.S. Consulate in Matamoros to warn employees to avoid the areas near the Attorney General’s office pending Rodriguez;s transfer to Mexico City. There were numerous blockades reported by the media between Matamoros and Reynosa including one Saturday morning in Rio Bravo south of Donna.
Salazar and members of her administration have been implicated in the disappearance – at the hands of El Grupo Hercules – of three American siblings near El Control. Local newsmen have also reported death threats for their reporting of the three siblings and a Mexican national who was with them.

We can only wonder what nefarious activities take place while all the citizens are hiding in their homes. Does the Matamoros mayor do this to give the bad guys free rein over the city?????
